And the title of this thread is

James Posey = Motor that never quits.

Posey is as solid as they come. But holy frick. Wasn't I just arguing that the difference between Posey and MoPete was negligible?

20pts vs 13 pts and a couple of stops.

Did you watch the fourth quarter, though? That is really the point of the Posey stuff.

Posey is definitely a valuable piece added, if for nothing else than depth. I realize Butler has played marginally well so far, but anyone who's watched the hornets knows he will inevitably drop off of a cliff, because it happens every year. Posey puts us closer, but we definitely still need another big man and/or a guy who can create for himself. When James has come in the past two games, or offense grinds to a halt. Hopefully we see a lot of JuJu when he gets healthy. Either way, I still think we are a player away.

You will see hints of this until the playoffs. And the Hornets will win a ton of games. But when the playoffs come around all the small weaknesses you will have ignored will be amplified. And the Hornets will not have what it takes to get it done. They just don't have the personnel IMO.

So nothing matters until the playoffs is what you're saying.

Good. Shut the frick up until April then.

Bye.

you know what. when it's all said and done, the name of the game is putting the ball in the basket.

intangible me all you want. but mo pete played good defense last night.

and i have no clue what the heck you're talking about with ginobili torching Mo Pete in last years series.

Ginobili was held to 19, 13, 31, 15, 20, 25 and 26. 4 out of 7 times he was held below per minute averages.

just silly.

Posey hit the big 3 to stop the Suns' run late in the game. I think that is exactly the kind of intangible that matters. Hornets are a fun team to watch for sure.

that's what PER and + - stats are for. To try and get some of those intangible stats like how much better a team plays when the player is on the floor.

Oddly enough, they're identical in those too.

the flaw here is that we have to assume NO ONE else could have hit a 3 at a similar time

that's why the intangible arguments are stretches, imho

Would another player in that position hit that 3? Who the frick knows. Production is what matters.

I agree, but some people get a rep for making big shots and I think it is fair to say that Posey has earned that rep, too.

I have no idea. That argument is circular. All I know is that Pose hit the big shot last night. No semmantics involved.

from like 2 or 3 "big shots" when he was the 4th option-type?

where were this big shots on his OTHER teams?

Slo, I have no idea how many big shots Pose has hit in his career. I really don't. I do know that he hit a bunch of big ones during two championship runs. If you don't think he has a rep of being a clutch shooter that is fine.

I don't see how you can detract from Posey because he has been playing at about the same level as Mo Pete: Peterson has been great this season and was great in the playoffs last year. The Hornets could have no idea whether or not he was going to continue to play at that level or revert to horrific regular season form, so that's why they got Posey. If MoPete keeps playing like this, it's a good thing for the Hornets, not a negative reflection on the Posey signing.

And yes, I would prefer to have Azubuike and Arthur right now, but I think Posey improves the team and just because they are likely the 3rd best team in the NBA doesn't mean they can't beat the Lakers or Celtics in a 7 game series if a few things go their way.

Weird. Mo Pete had a better 3pt pctg than James Posey last year, and pretty much every year.

and he shot 47% from the 3pt line in the playoffs.
