Jackson has been dead since the mid 90s when everyone started moving out to Madison. Went to a few Jackson Generals games growing up.

What’s like independent minor league like? Bottom of the barrel? Are most good prospects in a league affiliated with a MLB team?

There's a reason the Savannah Bananas don't play "real" baseball, and that is the answer to your quesiton.

They did alright in the 90's with the Jackson Generals, so it can be done (again).

Do you know how different Jackson is since the 90s? You are advocating for a Double A team when there was one there for 21 years and they just left in 2024. Apparently you didn't go. That was only 2 seasons ago. The Mississippi Braves left because attendance sucked and they couldn't make any money.

Jackson is also steadily losing people. Lets just talk white flight alone. In 1980 it was 52% white. In 1990 it was 43%. Now it's 14%. And there are are only around 600,000 people total in the 5 county metro area. That isn't enough to support a team.

The Jackson area already had a Double A team and it was there for 21 years and they just left in 2024. Apparently you didn't go because that was only 2 seasons ago. The Mississippi Braves left because attendance sucked and they couldn't make any money. Go watch the Mud Monsters play if you really want to see baseball. Its basically Single A now with their MLB partnership although all teams are independent.

And we in Columbus, GA were happy to welcome them. Columbus was starved with lack of a minor league team for 17yrs. Set an all-time attendance record in their inaugural season and merch sales exceeded forecasts.

No, for many reasons.

#1 for me and many others: I cannot imagine parking my car outside of a stadium in Jackson, then walking back to it with my kids after dark. Hell no, no thanks.

Why not go watch Southern Miss in Hattiesburg? Nice town, restaurants, a great team, and you probably won't get car jacked. Probably less than 2 hours from wherever you are around Jackson.

Richmond lost the Braves' AAA team even though they have the same population as New Orleans

Pearl, Ridgeland, Madison have plenty of baseball fans.

Yeah and they’re all dropping 2 grand a month at the World Series every weekend watching Laytyn and Brextyn win dem rings.

Ain’t got no money to go the AA game.

I watched Billy become “TheKid” for the generals. Good stuff.
