re: It's obvious Gundy wants no part of new college sports environment where players get paid.

Maybe the interpretation that its a preemptive excuse is reasonable. But the second part of your statement is not.
See my point #2: "2-Playing FCS or teams from lesser FBS conferences has long been a traditional practice in college football."
Using traditional game scheduling practices does not constrain one's ability to raise concerns of a level playing field in the brave new world we find ourselves in (nor does it raise questions of credibility while doing so).
While we could debate whether pay to play should be allowed at all in college football, I think its a moot point because pay to play is not going to be voluntarily reversed at this point (absent certain circumstances). So if pay to play is going to exist, then Oregon needs to have the same cap as Ok State or face financial or other penalties. That's what happens in professional sports.

He's the Bill Snyder of Okie State

In Gundy's 20 years, they've finished ranked 11 times and were a missed FG away from playing LSU in the BCS title game in 2011. Gundy has taken OSU to the next level by their standards.
I think this is a good point, but he has kept them at that level, or a slightly lower level, for 15 years now. If the fanbase is content with a 8-4 ceiling most years, then fair enough.

Based on what? They’re realistically the, what, 6th or 7th best program in the conference based on resources, location etc?
Utah
UCF
TCU
Texas Tech
Colorado
Probably ASU, BYU
Then Ok State, Houston if they want to invest Baylor, Iowa St, Kansas St all in a similar tier
I don’t think there’s that much difference between any of those programs (including Kansas with their new stadium)

:
I’ll add this to my previous response, since the Big12 championship game was reinstated and not counting OU and TX who are now gone, here are number of appearances:
OKST: 2
Baylor: 2
TCU: 2
ISU: 1
ASU: 1
Take the above with his average of 9.4 wins per season, and I have no reason to believe that he can’t maintain that level. I concede that he’ll have to survive past this season to do it.

I don’t know that content is an accurate description. The fanbase is divided among those who are thankful for everything he has done and want to give his a chance to repair the ship and those who want him gone.
He can’t survive another disaster season like last year. If the team shows signs of improvement, he’ll buy another year.

That 2011 Iowa State loss will forever define his career and Oklahoma State football as a whole.

bullshite.
1. There is nothing traditional about a football game between Oklahoma St and UT-Martin
2. In the 4 years of Gundy's playing career at OSU they played one 1-AA team in non-conference. Annually playing cupcake games like that didn't become common practice until the 90s.

Golly… I had to bump this when I saw the score… Wtf?

i believe one of his kids is defending him on twitter, calling out cfb fans, and claiming okie st is a shite program with out him. was it him, or the help of Buffets cash influx??? He had buffets backing and didnt have to worry about his future, easier to coach with no fears of losing games.

He's obviously been a great coach for them. But if the drive is no longer there, he should just hang it up. I don't care how good Oregon is, that's just embarrassing

This game should've been granted the Little League mercy rule....Because both teams just took a knee for the entire 4th quarter.

You’ve said this twice and it’s been wrong both times. Not counting the 2 games this year, he’s won 169 games in 20 seasons as the head coach, 8.45 per year. None the less.

You can’t use prior results from the early aughts to predict future performance in college football with how different the landscape is. What a dumb argument, not that surprising when you factor in you can’t do basic math
