It’s a four team invitational tournament - not a championship playoff

We need to start calling this thing what it is. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma were decided to be the participants in this years tournament. As long as those teams didn’t do something to get disinvited, they were in.
Oklahoma lost their invite, so it was decided that Notre Dame would get in.
So now that’s what we have. Alabama actually validated their claim by winning the SEC. Clemson...ok, the circumstances of their 3OT loss on the road with a backup qb can be excused, especially when they completely dominate the rematch.
Of course, that showed clearly Notre Dame is on the same level, but....
And then there is Ohio State. Don’t play enough games to qualify for the conference championship....the big ten changes the rules for them. The playoff committee says “hold my beer- that’s why we don’t have any hard and fast rules to begin with.”
College football’s death spiral began on 1-9-12. Every game counts they said....settle it on the field they said....all a joke when they didn’t get the result they wanted. They then used that to justify the four team playoff. Instead of making it better, it just allowed for more manipulation.
So laugh at UCF claiming a National Championship all you want, but laugh just as hard when a team that finished third in its conference wins a four team invitational tournament being named champion.

It’s a playoff to me. The 4 best teams are facing off for one true champion.

Why is everyone crying?
90% of this board creamed their panties over getting rid of the BCS for this “playoff”
Well, you got it.

I'm looking for this thread from last season.
Curiously, I don't see it.

Doc and I have been calling it this for years. But hey we were dumb and didn’t know anything. The sheep are starting to wake up

8 team playoff.
Pick the 8 highest ranked conference champions. (Exclude lower ranked co-champions).
If you get down to the bottom of the top 25 list, and you still have spaces remaining, go back to the top and pick the co-champions you left off.
If you still have spaces left, then fill in the remaining spaces with the highest ranked at-large teams.
Round 1: quarterfinals New Year’s weekend at Rose, Cotton/Fiesta, Sugar, and Orange.
Round 2: semifinal , two weeks later, re-seed and place at home stadium of higher seeded teams
Round 3: two weeks later, national championship at highest ranked of remaining teams.

It needs to be 16 or 24 to include everyone a chance of earning a way in.

We were obviously the best team last year, so your post didn't make much sense

The AP says you didn't play the other half of the top 2.
"Obviously" is a stretch.

8 team playoff.
Amendment: if an at-large team is in the top 3, they auto-qualify as the #8 seed. Only 1 at-large team may auto-qualify per playoff.

I think four is perfect. There haven't been many good semifinal games, but I would rather err on the side of adding an extra in than leaving a deserving team out. We really don't need 8. The only time I would want that is if you had a year with like four great SEC teams, but then, the playoff would really just be an SEC invitational. Other programs need to get better to qualify.

BCS had the same top four teams

Best teams got picked. Actually aggies getting left out makes this 4 team playoffs perfect

We need to go ahead and break a G5’s playoff cherry and get them in and see what they can do. Keeping it at 4 teams isn’t going to work, because the committee is always go to err on a power 5 team over a g5 team, even if that means putting in an 8-3 team or 6-0 team from the power 5’s over a 13-0 BYU. Expand the playoff, and let’s see what these group of 5 teams can do.

Ohio st is like Pepsi... lots of people like it but no one wants it

“PLAYoff” in Ohio State’s case not much playing was required
