I don't think such thing as a GOAT exists. I've been thinking about this issue for a long, long time, and there is just no way to take the difference in players, leagues, owners, and fans into account from different generations.

I think Babe Ruth is the undisputed greatest baseball player of all-time. Because not only was he one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game, he also was one of the greatest pitchers.
Everyone knows about his hitting prowess. 714 home runs in a career, 60 home runs in a season, etc. But very few people remember how good of a pitcher he was.
His career record as a pitcher was 94-46. He had a career ERA of 2.2770 - 16th best in major league history. He pitched 9 shutouts in the 1916 season with the Red Sox - a record that stood until 1978 when Ron Guidry tied it.
He won 20 games in a season twice in his career, with his career high coming in 1917 with 24 wins on the year.
Babe Ruth is, at least in my opinion, the greatest baseball player of all time.

Gretzky is pretty unanimous as the GOAT. Many argue against Jordan and for any number of football and baseball players. Wooden is a good call.

Nope. GOAT arguments are so stupid. All opinion and hard to compare different eras. It's like ranking teams from different years. Would the 2011 BAMA team beat the 1992 BAMA team? Who knows? Who cares?
You just can't quantify or qualify somethings in sports. It's fun to discuss and argue, but there's no way to discern a real answer.

Surprised folks haven't mentioned Ruth
ETA: How about Michael Phelps?

76 wins vs. 200 wins. No...I don't think you can.
Perfect example of the different era argument. Petty won a lot of races at a time where there were multiple races on the same weekend which diluted the competition (also over 60 per season). Many of those races were even on dirt. Petty, Earnhardt, and Johnson are all great but it's kind of apples and oranges.

That maybe so...but the dude won 200 races, won 27 races in the 1967 season alone, won 7 Daytona 500s, won 7 cup championships, and finished in the Top 10 700 times.
Different eras are different eras but no one ever dominated the sport like Richard Petty and no one ever will.

Gretsky, Tiger, Jordan, listed in order. Gretsky is the Goat of goats as in the least disputable, Tiger 2nd, Jordan 3rd. Doing coaches is silly even in a silly argument. There's just way too many variables.
ETA: I would have thought unarguable was wrong and inarguable was right. I was wrong. I guess either work.
