I’m not sure they will recover in five years from this debacle. I’d definitely take the over — WAY over.

On the flip side, is Goff for Stafford the BEST trade in history? It somehow improved both teams tremendously.

Bagwell was traded for a set up man named Larry Anderson at the trade deadline. Anderson pitched 22 innings for the Red Sox before departing for SD via Free Agency in the offseason. Bagwell went on to hit .297 with an OPS of .948, 449 HR and 1529 RBI.

Ehh that was a prospect deal. Most of those prospects thrown in a deal like that never amount to much. That’s different than trading a top 3 player in his prime for pennies on the dollar. Imagine the Colts trading Peyton Manning in 03 or 04 to the Bills for Drew Bledsoe and a couple of second rounders for no reason and that’s what you have with Luka.

Luka could be drinking beer instead of water during the games, and it would still be an abominable trade.

In modern times, the Celtics 1980 trade with Golden State, although at the time it seemed reasonable.

Parish came in the trade, along with the #3 overall pick, which the Celtics used to draft McHale. The Warriors received picks that they used on ultimate busts.

Auerbach had a history of pulling off lopsided. trades. Bill Russell was acquired this way.

Luka will age out faster than most. Injuries will catch up.

That might carry more weight if he weren’t traded for a guy nicknamed “Day To Davis” for his availability. IIRC, he even got hurt within the first game he played for the Mavs.

To answer the OP:

No. It has swung exactly zero championships. It hasn't cured all the ills that are still befalling an aging, talent strapped Lakers team trying to squeeze the last bits of Great LeBron out of the toothpaste tube.

Exactly, until the Lakers win a title - I can't see how you can even begin to make an argument for this take.

I mean - when you go to an extreme like "worst in sports history" the payoff has to support that. Getting bumped in the first round 4-1 ain't that payoff.
