Saban, Carroll, and Meyer are all right up there. Pete is probably the best recruiter of the group, Saban the best gameday coach, and Meyer is overall solid at both.

Maybe. Not pro. The pro's didn't buy his BS. Impressionable high schoolers do.

Why does everyone think Carroll is so great? Outside of 2004 and 2005, his teams have always underachieved. With all that talent and a typically non-competitive conference, he has no excuse to not go undefeated every year in the regular season. Since 2005, he hasn't gone a full regular season without losing to an unranked opponent. He lost to a 41-point underdog in 2007.

Saban was unprepared and outcoached last year against Utah

Saban woulda done just fine in the NFL. People keep thinking he was never going to succeed in the NFL.

He coached 2 years with 2 shitty teams. Did you also write off Belicheck after his 1st 2 seasons as a head coach?? Or how about after he was fired from his 1st job??

Negative. We had no depth. No conditioning. No team discipline. Bama was a mess when Saban got here.

really? you must not watch much pac-10 football. Undefeated last year in bowl games and a winning record against the SEC over the last decade. No, I'm not saying we're better than the SEC, but we can definitely hold our own.

edit: not saying I agree with every point, but this guy makes an interesting argument: pac vs. sec

For my money, Saban is the top college FB coach in America right now, better even than Pete Carroll.

You do realize that you asked a question in the subject for your thread and then provided your answers to your own question, right?

p.s. Before this year Carroll had 7 straight years finishing in the top 4 with a 6-1 record in BCS bowls (the only loss of course being in that great Rose Bowl game against Texas and Vince Young).

With Nick's track record, I'm sure Terri just planted some sago palms in Miami, and LSU fans are hoping they're just planting some water oaks in T-Town..

Eli Gold and Snake Stabler must be singing "Way ahead of schedule" again tonight!

Yes, he's the best. When he beats and sometimes schools every coach in the SEC, he's the best.

The only thing he didn't do at LSU was give us two undefeated seasons. Is the talent level that much better in Alabama than Louisiana?

Coaches can improve during their careers. While he didn't succeed in the NFL, he definitely seems to have come back to NCAA with a hell of a focus, and the mind to mold The Process even better than at LSU.

Hook em horns.

Speedy, Saban will beat Texas this time. He has better overall talent and he will win. Bama is back to playing their A game. If they keep their heads on and follow the Saban advice of one game at at time and 24hr rule they will win. Get use of this because if he stays at Bama this will happen many more times. I love my tigers but Les ain't no Saben. I vote Saban No. 1 and Myers No. 2.

I would rank Meyer at #1 and Saban at #2. Meyer has more success in bowl games. If Meyer didn't have to suspend Dunlap, the outcome of the SEC champ game would have been a lot different. McElroy wouldn't have had as much time in the pocket and the run game wouldn't have been as dominant. His impact is comparable to when Bama had to suspend Andre Smith last year.

Highly doubtful.

Unless Dunlap was gonna go on offense and lead UF to more than 13 points.

Bama would match any offer, he's not going to ND.
