If he transfers to the NAIA *or* to a I-AA or below team if he isn't subject to a 1-year NCAA suspension for 3 failed drug tests.

Masoli at Oregon was big and Clarett was a bigger name, but at the time of being kicked-off, Mathieu's name is high on the list. Before becoming famous though, Cam Newton at Florida, Janoris Jenkins at Florida. Some guys got derailed pretty good too, like Collins and Perriloux at LSU.

Yes. He can play I-AA ball.
He can move to another I-A school in 2013 if he feels it will improve his stock.

YES! This motherfricker!

If he violated the NCAA 3 strike criteria, he cannot play NCAA FBS, FCS, D-II or D-III. He would have to try NAIA, competitively between D-II and D-III. Schools like Evangel, Bellhaven, Peru...there are no NAIA schools in LA.

Perrilloux
He had a more significant impact on LSU's success in 2008 than TM7 would have in 2012, but he was by no means a bigger name than Mathieu.

Maybe, but suspension =/= getting kicked off the team.

Would you like to submit a candidate?

Wasn't there a Heisman candidate at Oklahoma in the 80s who got busted for either armed robbery or coke dealing?

Bingo, that's who I was thinking of.

And he would have to pay his own way, because they dont have scholarships for athletics.

Clarrett gives TM7 a run for his money, but he was not a returning Heisman finalist.

There are definitely no NAIA football teams in LA and no NCAA D-II football teams either. And, i really only care about football, but don't think their are and NAIA affiliations in any college sport in LA.

Perriloux was the #1 recruit in the nation and was sure to be in the Heisman watch the upcoming season.

when the question was first posed, I though it was a reach, but it really is hard to come up with a name of someone with a bigger name and better resume (i.e. Heis Finalist) prior to being kicked-off.

add something constructive...anyway, there are ways at lower levels to get athletic scholarships.
D-II has fewer full schollys, but they are the only NCAA level, where sholarships can be divided among players, so a lot of players, who can get academic money, grants, aid, etc...can get a full ride by having to use ony 20%, 40%, 60% etc of one of the athletic schollys.
D-III cannot offer athletic scholarship money.
NAIA does offer athletic scholarship money, which can include a full ride or something less...they have a lot of latitude.
