Port city ... If you are an NBA fan check out the NBA Open court in you tube. A lot of informal story telling on there . Mostly the TNT guys but to hear them so candid. It's funny.

Whether of not the passing has happened yet, the passing is inevitable, so James is either the all time best SF or the heir apparent to the throne.

Next.

Lebron is the better scorer, rebounder, and defender. Bird was a better passer, but Lebron is close. Bird was a better shooter, but this isn't lopsided either because Lebron is really good here too.

I don't know, Lebron is so hard to classify because of his athletiscm and how he plays the game. He scores because he is so big and fast and bangs around on the inside great. He is a good defender for the same reason. He is not a great shooter, even though he hit some bigs ones last night. His passing is good but not like bird.

So I say Bird was a little better all around basketball ball player because he had a more rounded game but Lebron is a much better all around freak athlete.

And really I don't know if Lebron even has a position.

IS it nice on the planet you live on? Lebron just finished a season shooting just under 57% over all and over 40% from 3. Those are great great numbers for a 3 his size.

He's been playing at a higher level than Bird ever did for years now

Tough call. If LeBron's career ended today, it would be a decent debate, but I think Bird would win out. However, Lebron's career isn't over and I think he will pass Bird before it is over.

You are hitting Peej levels of stupidity with trying to discredit LBJ. You shouldn't know what that means with 243 posts, but I bet you do.

Career numbers

Bird - 13 seasons
50% fg.
38% 3 pts.
88% free throws.

James- 10 seasons
49% fg.
33% 3 pts.
75% free throws.

Seems pretty close to me over their careers. So I think my feet are firmly on earth.

I am in my 50's and attended 50 or so Celtic games between 1980 and 1990. Bird is my favorite player ever! He had the best instincts ever and simply saw things developing faster than anyone else. He knew where he would one-time or direct the ball before it got to him. He is a top 5 all-time passer and knew where rebounds would go before missed shots hit the rim. He was THE MASTER at establishing position...enough room so he could rebound balls after they bounced off the floor and so that he could go straight-up with two hands in rebounding while the higher jumpers had to reach in over-the-back. He was also a master at moving without the ball, anticipating what what about to happen and slipping through cracks for offensive boards!

La'Bron, however, is arguably the best defender ever, because he can defend all positions and the most valuable offensive player ever, because he can play all positions...score from outside, score with back-to-the-basket (which he really developed in 2011), distribute, rebound, anticipate, dominate with his athleticism, etc...there is nothing on the court he cannot do! When finished, La'Bron will have 4-5 rings and 6-7 MVP's. IMO, Bird is top 7-10 all-time, but La'Bron will retire at 37 or 38 as the best ever.

I'm good with that. Lebron has spent more years as the only weapon on a team, and birds teams were more rounded. Seems right that Lebron should pass him in year 11 to birds 13.

So....there are people in this thread that would pick Larry Bird over Lebron James if they had the choice? Jesus Christ
