I don't really want to see the third best team in a conference make the playoffs.

Might be the dumbest thing I've seen in 2023.

You purists are going to have to get over it. It’s going to be fantastic football. Playing for a bye will keep the end of the season interesting, probably more so. There will be 8-10 teams vying for a top 4 bye, and 10-12 teams playing to make it.

The bowl season as is was killed by the BCS, not the playoff. This will fix it.

Why? Ya'll could probably beat them. I mean, you sure couldn't beat the 2nd best team in a conference.

I just don't like seeing the sport turned into pro football, that's all.

With the extra playoff games, I think the conference champ games should be eliminated. But it’s all about money so I doubt that happens

And that's my point. OSU/PSU first round would be completely retarded. I wonder if the committee would move the furniture around a bit so conference matchups don't happen right away.

The NFL puts about 44% of their teams in a playoff. With 12 teams in the CFP, that's about 9% of the FBS.

So you're opposed to the FBS going to a format more similar to the rest of NCAA athletics--because it would be turning it into pro football?

Brother, I hate to tell you this, but the FBS is just minor league football. It's not your granddaddy's college football anymore. Whether you like it or not, NIL and everything else going on today has ALREADY made it pro football lite.

The main negative of the playoff expansion is that it will be the end of national championship deciding games on campus.

Yes, there will be playoff games on campus for 1 round, but there won’t be on campus games that feel like they decide the national champion.

What "on campus" games have decided the national championship?

That doesn't even make sense.

I'm all for it. I think it's gonna be awesome.

So to recap, your opinion of the regular season making the competition for the bye more interesting is an admission that the best team doesn’t always win in a playoff and they seek to bypass it.

Maybe decided isn’t the right word. More like elimination games on campus featuring true contenders.

Alabama @ LSU was a national championship elimination game just this season. UT and Clemson vs South Carolina as well.

Now the elimination games prior to the postseason won’t be between true contenders most years.

I mean, apparently they weren't this year, either.

And doesn't even truly exist now. I mean, Georgia lost to Alabama in the SECCG last year, made the playoff, and won the NC. Ohio State lost to Michigan AT HOME, made the playoff, and was a few plays away from sending UGA home and playing for a NC--all while Michigan, who beat them and win the BIG, would have been sitting at home.

Hell, Alabama damn near backed into the playoff even with that "elimination loss" on their record.

Conference champions getting a bye is the flaw here. All conferences aren’t equal.

I am sure that the old farts here would love it if the AP went back to crowning the winner of the Rose Bowl as National Champions. The majority of us like good football games to watch and that was a damn good one.
