If UCF is so good why don’t they go independent and schedule whoever they want?

Notre Dame gets to play pretty much anyone they want. UCF swears they’re so good, then prove it.

Boise eventually started scheduling big names like Oregon and VA Tech and it still wasn’t enough to get them in the conversation for a championship. Being in a non P5 conference will never get you a title. Being independent definitely helps. UCF, put your money where your mouth is or shut the hell up.

B/c why would a big time program in a P5 conference schedule a program like UCF when that big time program has everything to lose?

I wish people would stop asking stupid questions like this.

So if LSU played UCF this year instead of Miami it would hurt them? Explain

You dont get that? If LSU beats UCF it doesnt matter, its UCF. Who cares. If LSU loses to UCF, then that's a loss. Why would you play a team like UCF when you can play rice?

Loss to UCF hurts the resume a lot more than a loss to Miami.

I’d like to think LSU beating a #16 or whatever ranked UCF team would be better than beating rice southeastern La tech or even Miami since they turned out to be such shite

Miami is garbage this season though. So you’re saying it’s just because of brand name that a Miami loss wouldn’t be bad? Losing to a national brand instead of a G5 team?

Exactly. UCF is where Boise St was 11 years ago, but P5 teams have learned that lesson and won't bother with them. Eventually, like Boise St, they will go away and the apple cart will keep on rolling.

I have watched UCF and anyone who says they aren’t good is either lying or hasn’t actually seen them play. They could hang with/beat all of the top 10 teams except bama and Clemson.

I love college football more than any sport but the politics involved with branding can get annoying. I want to see the small brand name team get their due.

Exactly.

It shouldn't matter, but brand name counts.

They will get LSU or WV or okies in fiesta bowl.
Some of that. A top 10 p5.
Lets see how they do.

UCF probably can't afford to go independent. If they can continue to build up their fan base and booster club, perhaps in the future they will. That is, if they don't get an offer to a P5 conference.

But, don't buy the bullspit being laid ITT about how no one will play UCF. Many P5 teams don't want a home-and-home series and for good reason...money. But this notion P5 teams are avoiding UCF because of the risk of getting beat is absurd.

UCF has only been around for a tick over 20 years. In that time, they've played the following (not counting bowl games), some multiple times:

Alabama
Auburn
Ole Miss
Miss State
Georgia
Florida
Ohio State
Michigan
Nebraska
Penn State
Pitt
Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech
Miami (Fl)
Maryland
South Carolina
Stanford
Missouri
NC State
Boston College
Texas

And I'm probably leaving off a few. Nobody's afraid to play them. What. Alabama...a team that would most likely kill them...is terrified of them but Pitt...a team that is clearly closer to UCF's level than Alabama's...is man enough to risk an "embarrassing loss"? Makes no sense. That's just message board fodder. And so is this nonsense about a loss to UCF is worse than a loss to Miami this year. Yeah, the committee would be more accepting of losing to an unranked team than the #12 team. More make believe

Can UCF football be able to single handily be able to get a decent tv deal/fan attendance to fund all their sports as an independent? Plus that is a shite ton of pressure to try to stay relevant in cfb when realistically they should be way behind FSU,UF,and Miami. Yes they're on a nice little run right now but it's going to burn out.

Money
. This is the answer.

Notre Dame is a football draw and has a gazillion dollar tv deal with NBC. UFC ain't getting no tv deal.

Also Notre Dame still had to join the ACC for some sports and the BIG Ten for hockey to make their athletic department work.

And that arrangement won't last forever either and they'll eventually have to join a conference
