this is laughable too.. you learned to play soccer in the fricking states dude. iniesta doesnt start for barca or team spain so how the frick could he be better than xavi or fabregas? maybe this season will change my mind but until he sees more pt he is not on of the top midfielders in spain sorry.

what does it matter where i learned how to play soccer? i had some very good trainers coach me throughout my playing years, i wasn't coached by someone's dad.

Your logic is laughable. All Hendo is saying is that he prefers center mids who hold the ball. Iniesta is a possession based player. So, if Hendo thinks Iniesta is the epitome of this style of play, then to learn to play like what he considers the best isn't laughable at all. Your opinion may differ. And that's fine. But don't critique how he learned to play. If possession is the name of the game...

spain is just blessed with good midfield talent and they have been for a long arse time. iniesta, xabi alonso, senna, cesc, hell mikel arteta is a stud and hasnt EVER played for spain because of the ridiculous midfield talent.

Watching the recent arse kickings that Real Madrid and Barca put on the MLS/Mexican teams, I now have switched my La Liga alligience to Barca. Watching them pass/distribute the ball all over the field is truly a thing of beauty. They one-touch the ball all over the field until it gets to Henry...who basically stops the flow and wants to take on defenders.

Barca is going to skull frick RM and the rest of La Liga this year....again.

I'm surprised Titus Bramble hasn't gotten a nod.

To be completely fair, Fabregas has had one great season (2007-08). His passing is his strongest skillset, but I think Xavi is better than him in that regard.

Gerard and Lampard are both more deadly goalscorers, and at least Gerard has a physical component to his game that Cesc lacks.

The guys who are closest to him are Iniesta and Lampard. I think Gerard and Xavi are in their own level in central midfield (unless we are also calling Kaka a central midfielder, which I would not).

Lampard is a better player offensively and Iniesta is more effective in connecting the game between defense and offense. That's probably his greatest value to a team. So I would pick Cesc after all of those guys because he does not have any trait that he truly dominates over everyone else.

Iniesta started the final against Germany, I'm positive of it.

Gerard and Lampard are really the same player...although I will give the nod to Gerard for being a little better. I think that is why England's national team does not do as well in international competition. They really lack a creative CM...they really miss Paul Scholes in this department.

I think Pirlo is the closest and best comparison to Xavi.

I think Iniesta started all but one of the games in Euro 2008. Aragones preferred to go with Silva over Cazorla, Iniesta over Cesc, and Senna over Xabi. Obviously Xavi, Torres, and Villa had guaranteed spots.

I haven't been following WC qualifying to see what has been going on since.

Fabregas is more molded along the lines of Xavi, although not nearly as good. But he is also a good deal younger than all those other players. In our new 4-3-3 system which is similar to Barcelona, I think he might come into his own and maybe have a season like he did two years ago.

messi
ronaldo
basian schweinsteiger
torres
eto'o

kaka OR Thierry henry
could probally replace the either of the final 2.

but schweinsteiger is the fricking man, in my opinion. I have friends who know nothing about soccer, hardly watch soccer, but they saw some highlites and i made one watch a germany game, and he was like "wow, apparently this dude is the real deal"

not enough credit given to him IMO.

just my humble opinion.

He will be in the discussion after this year and the World Cup. The guy plays like superman when he puts on the German uniform.

the thing that makes gerrard a little better IMO is that he's been the straw that stirs the drink for liverpool for so long, lampard has been surrounded by exceptional players since abramovich took over, but he was still good before that. gerrard has played with some good players at liverpool, but not the all around talent depth that some of the chelsea teams had. lampard also plays with john terry so he doesnt have to do as much in the leadership regard. gerrard has carragher but still has to be a more influential player. they're both good though, i really think england should play lampard on the left and keep gerrard in the middle, it never seems to work when they play them both in the middle together.

Schweinsteiger is a great name to yell out when you are bored. It's almost as good as yelling Wiltord.
