Right, I’m very familiar with the views on a fall season among the baseball coaches. They’re not interested in it and why would they be. They just had their season cut short by the pandemic. Basketball and completed their seasons. Why would Baseball want to go first this year and put themselves in position for another season that doesn’t get finished?

Baseball began on time and then was stopped at the game level but do you honestly believe that the above average players stopped throwing and practicing for any true length of time? Asking them to continue straight through and restart a Season after playing all
Summer is pushing the limit from an arm care perspective.. showcase season is in full force at the moment and many of these kids are building and pushing to their top end with the expectation of shutting down come august.

We didn't get terribly far into the season, at least in LA. Kids have been playing travel/showcase but that's a reduced amount as well. If baseball were to go this fall, just cut down the season. Play 18-20 games than playoffs. No one want to play baseball in late November anyways.

There was talk of FB starting games Oct 1 in LA with no fans. That would cut down on a lot of the travel that occurs outside of district games until the playoffs were to begin. That might be a solution.

Yeah, that's what I would do. Move people around districts, for one year only, until you get 8 districts per class. Play a 6 week season. Week 7, top two teams in each district play a champ game. Winner goes on to 8 team playoffs. Schedule your 8 team playoffs using the old "bi-district" model we had before we went to power rankings. No SPLIT this year, everyone is together. No superdome classic this year, champ games at a midpoint site betweeen two champ game teams.

Not perfect at all, but you can get a season done in 10 weeks. Most teams get 6 games, and you cut down on travel a lot, which will help if you can't have fans.

As a baseball guy, we have to have a baseball season. There has to be a way to make it happen. Play in fall. Play In spring. I don’t care. But we have to find a way.

Realistically, what changes between September and February/March? I don’t see how it’s not okay to play in the fall but suddenly everything is back to normalcy by the spring

Vaccine with enough people vaccinated to make a difference will not be happening by the spring

LHSAA sent out a memo this afternoon

quote:

The LHSAA is fully committed to Fall Sports

Now, more than ever, we are reminded that our communities need high school sports. Interscholastic competition supports the physical, emotional and mental well-being of student-athletes across Louisiana. The LHSAA is fully committed to the safe return of high school athletics this fall. We encourage member schools to follow LHSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee Guidelines to ensure the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Reopening high school sports depends on all of us working together.

Isn’t Iowa high school baseball different in some ways to begin with? I haven’t read about it in years but is it the way teams/leagues are organized or is Summer maybe when they normally play anyway?
