So if you're not a number one player, no team should want to sign you?

I don't see anything in Melo's personality that tells me he would be okay with being the 2nd option and not jacking up as many shots as possible every game

He did alright at Syracuse

He was a freshman and he played his role (exceptionally well) at Syracuse. I'm not sure he is as coachable now as he was then. When I watch him play I get the impression he just doesn't have as much confidence in his teammates as he has in himself. So he is prone to forcing his shots when games are in the balance instead of relying on team play.

I'm with the OP. Melo is fools gold. There's a reason he's been in the league 11 years and been out of the first rd of the playoffs twice. He doesn't do the little things. He thinks his job begins and ends with scoring and taking max money. He's selfish. His actions through the years prove it.
Side note: has any player ever gotten more out of a college championship? No one gives Kemba walker NBA star treatment bc he led his team to a title.

but go ahead and fill your roster with role players.

Tim Duncan is hardly a role player. Tony Parker either.
Melo should be taking the most shots on any team outside of Cleveland, OKC, or Lakers. He is a top 5 scorer in the league. Yes his defense sucks, but there are several great scorers who suck at D. People talk about his leadership, but no one really knows anything about it. He's always had overrated head cases on his team. Why wouldn't Melo join other good players? He will get 20 shots a game no matter where he goes, but he needs more disciplined defensive players on his team to succeed

The dude is hot garbage but in this weak arse NBA with its astounding lack of talent it makes it seem he is decent.
Dude would be a average player if he played 20 years ago.

He'll get his 20-25 a game. May take him 20 shots, 10 free throws, and no defense to get it, though.

He actually didn't do as bad defending last year as you all are indicating.
...I never said he was a good defender btw.
Also I think in the triangle, you'll see a more efficient player.

Melo haters, tell me who he has had to help him win a championship. Are we gonna argue whether or not he can win one by himself? Even the mythical MJ couldn't do that. Only one man has achieved the feat. Different game now.

he can score from all over the place, as either a 3 or a small ball 4. he can get his own shot, and is willing to take shots in clutch situations. give me a defensive minded wing next to him, and I can live with his defensive issues (which I think are somewhat overblown anyway).
would I want him at what the Knicks are likely to pay him for 5 yrs? prob not. but on a 4 yr deal with a team set up to contend now, I could see it.

Melo at this point is a role player on a great team to win a title. If he went to Chicago, They are THE top team in the East. But Melo is all about the money. Stay in NY Melo, get rich and be happy on a losing team.

No. With the roster they have now, they make the playoffs next year. Then they have their own first round pick and enough money to throw at the top FA's next season.
Looking for them to land Marc Gasol, btw...

With the roster they had this year they should have made the Playoffs. Now Chandler is gone. Melo is a pure shooter and that's it. IF he wants to win a title he needs to go somewhere to that he can be a piece of the puzzle. Chicago is the way to go. IMO.
