Absolutely none at all. We must also be honest about the gap within the G5 conferences. The AAC and MWC are not really on the same level as the Sun belt MAC or C-USA.

Yeah, they'd do great relegating themselves like that
they wouldn't be relegating themselves... P5 and TV would do that for them.

G5 doesn't really bring enough money or eyeballs to the table to determine their own destiny. any cachet they get is something P5 either gives them or lets them have

On the other hand, there far more schools in the MAC, SUNBELT and CUSA who would love this

If so, why aren't they in FCS? When powerhouses Georgia Southern and Appalachian State left the FCS, they knew full well they weren't going to win any more "national championships," but they did it anyways.

Upsetting the big boys is the dream for these schools. It's not claiming a second tier national title.

You think anyone would remember 2006 Boise State if they had just boat raced everyone in a G5 playoff instead of beating Oklahoma? Does anyone know who App State beat in the 2007 FCS national title? Everyone knows about their win over Michigan from that season though.

So? Regardless of how many subdivisions you make or how many teams you put in the playoff, there are only like 15 programs who are capable of winning a national title outside of a fluke.

FCS has a big playoff, and NDSU has won 6 of the last 7 national championships. The reality will always be that most programs simply aren't competing for a national championship.

G5, like I mentioned earlier, has created a natural interest by just being associated with the likes of the P5 conferences.

The natural interest is definitely there because of being associated with the likes of the P5 conferences, which is precisely why I don't think a split should occur.

If they would ever expand to an 8-team playoff, just give the G5 a seat at the table and let the highest ranked G5 team in.

I think we'd all agree a split basically already exists, but I'm fine with the current bowl system (just eliminate some of them).
