For what it's worth, Geno is a hell of a coach. At the right program, I think he could be somewhat successful in men's ball. However, I do wonder how much of his success is due to him being a superior coach than everyone. Or the fact that there's probably a handful of quality woman's basketball players. And of those quality players, 85% of them all goes to Uconn

Programs are all about recruiting momentum and winning. The stars aligned at UConn for Geno. Would it translate to NBA? Of course not, because you won’t have those advantages (superior players) in the NBA probably.

I have always thought that Geno was overrated AF. He basically has a monopoly on talent. I could take the current roster and win a couple of NC's in a four year period. I mean...my high school boy's basketball team can supposedly beat the UConn's women team.

Just don't think his coaching "abilities" would translate to Men's basketball where he would be recruiting against the top Blue Bloods.

Agree.

I think he would bomb if coaching at men's top level.

He created that monopoly though. They were 12-15 his first year and he had them in the tournament in like 2 years. No way he would dominate like he is now but to say he's overrated isn't accurate

I think Saban is proof that college and NFL are different games. You could be a good coach in both, but it's unlikely. Generally the best coaches in any college sport get to take advantage of a huge talent gap between their team and everyone else. Now, it's part of his success to create that gap.

UConn is also a G5 school. I don't know if they'll fall apart when he leaves, obviously there are several G5 basketball schools that are good, but it doesn't help.

he can certainly draw up x's and o's, but it's a lot easier to stick to team ball when there's not as much personal glory to be had.

in other words, men won't listen to him like women do

Every year Auriemma coaches 30 or more games where his team has a massive talent advantage over the opponent.

It's just an assumption but I don't believe he would do well in a setting where parity is more prevalent.

I think he could coach men's CBB. Like someone else said he kind of reminds me of Saban. He runs a really really tight ship at UCONN, which is why they're so good. That however would be a disaster in the NBA so I don't see that working at all.

He did pretty damn good against Pat Summitt when talent was almost equal IIRC

His record in the women's game is pretty good, but he's had such a talent advantage it's hard to say if he's a good "coach". He can recruit well which is part of coaching. But when Saban got the NFL where he couldn't recruit better talent he bombed.

UCONN cheats in both mens and womens basketball. That's how Geno got talent like he did. He was pretty much never at parity with Pat Summit. He went from below to well above the Vols in roster talent, in about a year. Pat Summit was a better coach without a doubt.

UCONN has been bad for womens' basketball just like that guy from UNC was bad for womens soccer.

Geno would get curb stomped on the mens side.

Good coach but no way he gets enough talent on the men’s side to be as good as he is in women’s. Especially if he doesn’t have ESPN recruiting for him.

Geno's first meeting with players as coach of Uconn men's team:

"Now, listen fellas, I know each and every one of you can play. I have to say that I will be lightening the practice schedule for every third week of the month, once all your menstrual cycles sync up. Because youll all be a headache to deal with. It happens with every team ive ever coached, and I expect no different this season."

What more do you want from a coach than to take a mediocre team and turn it in to one of the most dominant dynasties in all of sports.

Have a hard time of seeing how he is overrated.
