Rebounding is an effort stat.

Barkley wasn't scared of anyone or anything. He spoke his mind on every issue and would talk smack to opposing players to get inside their head. He had a good vertical jump for a guy built like that plus he knew how to play the game with finesse and brute force.

Michael Jordan was listed at 6'6
Barkley was also listed at 6'6

Barkley looks an inch taller... though i suppose it is possible that jordan was lying as well, and he is actually 6'3

either way, like i said, impressive as hell that he led the league in rebounding and average double figure rebound numbers his whole career at that height.

Don't think he got the nickname round mound of rebound being skinny. Ever.

Barkley was in his best shape in 93. It's no coincidence that that was the year he went to the finals.

Yep... saw him play against and dominate both Mel Turpin and Sam Bowie.

And as I recall, he was the best player consistently in Dream Team practices. He was absolutely tenacious and such an incredible hard worker.

Barkley elbowed an Angolan player in a game that the Dream Team won 116-48.

I think he was trying to send a message to the other teams in the tournament with that.

He really hated his coach at Auburn too.

I was at Auburn while Barkley was there and this is the first I've ever heard that he "hated" Sonny Smith.

Where did you hear this?

I don't understand how Barkley got that nickname... he wasn't fat during his playing days. He was just solid.

Even late in his career when he was on the Rockets, he wasn't fat:

Btw... I just found this picture. Manute Bol was the tallest, skinniest guy ever.

And just to gay it up a little bit:

Maybe he got the nickname because he was bald, and has a round head?

he was heavy when he was at Auburn and when he started out at Philly

He worked extremely hard to improve his conditioning as his career went along though and wasn't heavy near the peak of his career
