About as successful as Bill Walsh - not very successful.
Both cerebral coaches wrapped too much into the nuisance of the game. CFB is a relationship game...kids and mentors. You have to be able to relate.
Hell, by Belichick's standards...Bill Walsh would probably now be seen as hip and relatable.
Belichick on a recruiting visit...

People always say Belichick couldn't recruit... But what do you all think free agency is? It's basically professional recruiting... NE rarely, if ever offers the biggest contract and Belichick does all of these free agency calls with agents and players. He is THE guy in the Pat's organization when it comes to swaying Free agent to sign with NE.
Jimmy Johnson has told stories about Bill being on the fishing boat with him in Florida and Belichick constantly on the phone closing free agents.

Plus I can't imagine a Saban coached team ever throwing the ball 56 times and running it 14 times in a close game like Belichick did against the Broncos last year.
The Patriots are hands down the best in the league at opponent specific game planning. In the 2014 playoffs, Brady threw 50 passes against Baltimore and the next week LeGarrette Blount ran for a gazillion yards against Indianapolis.

Funny you say that, in the Oral History of BB that released today, they mention that the raiders CEO suggested BB as their head coach and Al Davis chose Jon Gruden instead because he was an offensive guy

His system might be too much for college kids. Also, not sure how much he would enjoy recruiting.
this 100%

So Saban to the Pats?

He'd be a terrible college coach.
Not because he can't coach-- he could coach a team of moldering corpses into competition in the AFC South--- but because of the NCAA's draconian limitations on practice time.
That's what would kill BB as a college coach. Nothing else.

Remember Belichick's genius o coordinator, he failed with that arrogant Parcells NE attitude...at ND and Kansas.

He'd land his team on probation within three years.
