Agree its better to have a 8 team playoff and keep the BCS formula if you ask me. This committee proved nothing but another controversy in the selection process.
Do you like the basketball selection committee? Nearly everyone believes it's the best way to select and seed teams. If not, they could use the RPI to select and seed teams, but no one thinks that a good idea.
You do realize that the BCS formula is 2/3 human polls and 1/3 computers, which of course are programmed by humans and therefore include the inherent bias of the programmer.
I'd much rather have a committee of committed and serious people than rely on a BCS formula that's primarily poll- driven.

Would be so easy to place Power 5 champions and three at-large teams. Don't think it will happen for a while though.
Completely agree, and this is what will happen when the playoffs are tweaked in a few years. It's the best combination of rewarding conference champs and including worthy teams that didn't win their conference.

The 8 team is our destiny
5 Conference and 3 At Large
16 way too big... 4 is too small

If you move to 8 teams youll make the same thread about #9.
I don't buy this argument. Right now, there aren't even enough spots for each power 5 champion, much less independents and a great non power 5 team. There are also always that runner up team in a power 5 conference (TCU, Bama 2011, etc.
8 would be perfect.

Never. That would be too many games to play would end up playing 15-16 games

How long until it goes to an 8 team playoff.

Screw the non P5 schools. There needs to be two tiers and you only play teams in your tier.
That's how that "other" football does things, relegation and promotion. It seems to work.

True, but it's much less painful to argue about 8/9 or 68/69 for basketball than 4/5.
There is usually a natural break point around 6 or 7.
Couldn't agree more, that was the point of my post. #70 doesn't have a chance in hell, and an extended multi-round single-elimination playoff basically guarantees that the best team or teams will not win.
But I could go with 8. The regular season is not enough to establish who the top two teams are, especially since (outside the SEC at least) most of even the good teams only play one or two peer competitors all year. But having an 8 team playoff is enough I think to include all the teams that realistically have a shot at winning it all.
ETA: Again though, I'm not sure the players will be all that thrilled to have to play even more games for free. Especially since they have fanbases that must be entertained or else this:

Hopefully really soon since it will be are only chance of making the playoffs any time soon. We will rarely finish in the top 4 if not. Every lsu fun should be the biggest proponents for expanding

should have started with 6-8 teams. No need to going higher. Anybody arguing for more would have to remember that it would shorten the regular season.
What makes you think going to 8 teams will lessen the drama? More teams can make a case to be #8 than can to be #4. Going to 8 is simply doubling down on stupid. The BCS was the best solution (not perfect but best) we had. Now we have all the BCS drama x 100.

Hopefully never. Wish we could get rid of the 4 team playoff. Will be the ruination of college football.

Hopefully never if it does go to 8 the conference championship games would be worthless. For the SEC playing in the championship could even be seen as a disadvantage.

If the ratings and attendance don't pan out, we might be going back to the BCS or Bowl Alliance system sooner than you think.
