I'm still in shock that they didn't acquire enough land for the driving range to be part of the golf course.

I'm sure they don't care, but they aren't going to be hosting any LGA tournaments or USGA qualifiers anymore.

It may be the death of the course without the range. I'm not saying I agree or disagree. I know there are courses around the south that don't have a range and they do fine not saying Coppermill can but if Coppermill does go down, if the hoa drops a million on just the range, that's another million they have to try and get back out of the entire property. From their eyes, its a better business decision to not buy it for that price.

Your probably right. I agree but like I said, that's the hoa doings and they own the place so they make that call. Maintenance does what they can and do any request they have. Its the way it is. I'm sure they don't wanna own a golf course but they are trying to protect their property values at the same time, so spending a million for the range isn't a priorty I'm guessing since its not on but a few houses unlike the course.

Oh yea, one other thing I forgot to say. Nothing bad. I know the hoa isn't happy. Been hearing that but the range plan is there fault. Even though hoa owns the course, they pay a management company to run it so no employees work for the hoa. So the cluster of the range is only between the hoa and the previous owner. The gm is I guess u can say doing odd things to get bodies on the course trying to make the hoa money and I never said I agree or disagree with what the gm is doing. We all have opinions again on some of those things as well. From what I here, the hoa is "OK" with what maintenance is doing and spending for a budget. I'm sure there not happy with the current condition but I think they understand some at the same time. Can't speak for what they think about the clubhouse/gm deal.

The owner of the driving range lands seems like an a-hole who is completely missing the point. He probably thinks that land is worth $1 million since it is located so close to a "championship golf course" on the Audubon Trail. What does he think that land is worth if that course closes? Certainly not anywhere near his asking price. The HOA also made a big mistake buying that course without the driving range. If they couldn't afford both the course and the range then they shouldn't have bought the course at all. This situation is just asking for exactly the type of negative things said about the course that have been mentioned, and it won't stop with one little thread on Tigerdroppings. It won't stop until they have a driving range

I don't see how that land is worth 1 million even to a developer

I'm guessing they could probably get 6-8 nice sized lots out of it, but I don't think they'd be worth 125ish just for the lots. Not to mention the costs the developer would have to put up to prep the area and install any utilities that may be missing in that parcel

Eta: nevermind

Looks like they could make a cul de sac in that area and get another 20 lots or so out of it.

I underestimated how much space was there

Yeah. It's easy to see getting $50k/lot.

I guess the next question is, what does the HOA do with the course when it's closed.
Sherwood just let their's grow wild.

I would start slashing tires and putting bags of dog crap lit on fire on the homes of the HOA board members until this thing is made Rite!

Nope. They still have 2 years on their management company agreement so it will be around. Doubt they buy out the agreement to close down.

Sherwood has been mowed down. They are in the process of trying to gather people to see if its possible to reopen it. Gonna be near impossible without backing but never know. Would need a complete redo.

I always like Copper Mill. I used to cut the rough and all the common areas in the neighborhood when I was in college. Actually spent my 21st birthday standing about dick deep in the ponds at the entrance cutting down cat tails.

I love the lay out of that course. Had my first eagle and even par 9 holes there. It was also my lowest score for a while. I hope they get their greens back, I'd like to play it again one day. But it's definitely not worth the drive for me right now.
