Are all the schools in the G5 completely fricked going forward?

It’s not like you were getting the big money players anyway

If anything maybe you can offer a guy who would have been depth at a P5 school the chance at more endorsements as a star in a smaller market.

It could be say more lucrative to be the starter at Houston than a 3rd stringer at LSU or Texas.

Remember they can profit off their likeness not just get paid by football programs

Considering this will only apply to a fraction of p5 football players? Doubt it

I doubt it. It doesn't sound like they are allowing schools to pay them, but merely allowing them to be compensated for the use of their name, face, or whatever. I take it as a National Champion swimmer being able to offer swimming lessons and market himself or herself as a National Champion swimmer as a way to bring in clients. Or a weight lifter, soccer player, etc.

I don't take it as LSU or Alabama being able to pay players to go to their school.

I don't see how it really affects G5.

My thought is it will help teams in big cities, like an SMU. Tons of super rich alumni in a big city. Plenty of opportunity for businesses owned by alumni to bring in football players for a Saturday to greet people and take pictures.

Ronnie Ward Toyota May pay one guy well, but Southwest Airline in Dallas can pay several guys super well.

Southwest Airlines in Dallas rather pay the best Cowboy, Ranger, Texas Ranger Or Dallas Star to appear in an ad

Signing limits will still be in place. So it’s not like P5 schools can sign more players. They’ll still get the same kids they did be

Absolutely. This rule closes the gap more than anything.

Clemsons current class is going to be incredibly expensive under this kind of rule.

Southwest can afford to pay both. And a Chase Young can make a bunch of money and the offensive line can get $5k for an appearance which is more than Starkville Motors can pay.

Southwest rather pay for Texas or Texas A&Ms best player
Since more in Dallas probably root for those teams

This. Bigger schools have limits to the extent people will be willing to shell out for likeness.

A smaller school can concentrate on a few guys that they can compete with. Plus, smaller schools are usually the only game in town and a player endorsement is more likely than a bigger city like LA.

this is the dirty little secret about why the G5’s are at a disadvantage... next to none even “own” the general area they’re in

Maybe Boise, Hawaii, Wyoming, if that. That’s why Montana used to and NDSU currently dominates FCS, they’re the team for those smaller states.

The same could be said about the big markets with crap teams too
Chicago? Sure Northwestern is there, but I’d say ND has a larger fanbase/much more prevalent

NYC? Rutgers is in the area.
But once again ND, Penn State and Michigan have much more prevalent fan bases

And same can be said about ND with Boston

Of course in those markets college football takes a backseat to all their pro franchises

its gonna benefit whoever has the boosters ready to put up the money. Are boosters gonna be willing to pay backups as much as another school is willing to pay them to start for them? I think there will be a TON of players transferring.

Why? Clemson can’t pay them to play. They are now allowed to market themselves and if their likeness is used they can be compensated.

Are they going to undo the new jersey rule regarding numbers that can be sold? Will they now put players names on the back of jerseys so they can be compensated? The only companies doing that now are the cheap Chinese knockoffs and they aren’t paying any licensing fees.

I think it's going to help schools in big population markets and crush the ones out in BFE.

A dude in cities like Houston, Dallas, and Philly will have waaaaay more opportunities compared to guys out in Laramie, Huntington, or Ruston.

Maybe TAF could open up the TAF Bar & Grill and hire some LSU athletes to help promote it.

You say that, but who in DFW gives a rip about North Texas?

It’s all about the donor support, not the metroplex.

You mentioned Ruston but Louisiana Tech has better donor/alumni support than just about anyone in Conference USA.

The question will be is if the Squire Creek Country Club members are on board for this. If they are, great. If not, we’ll back to the bottom of the G5.
