Take this article for what it’s worth: If you’re a Niners fan, look forward to many years with Kaepernick under center. If you’re not a 49ers fan, comment on how biased these numbers are, how Kaepernick isn’t worth anything, and how he won’t last…maybe that delusion will keep you company while he’s racking up stats and W’s against your teams.

If he can't be elite this year with Crabtree, Boldin, Stevie and Vernon, he won't ever. That's way too much talent just to be a good QB

Agreed. Last year the WR core was horrible.

Right now he is in the 7-10 range IMO. He is not worth $15MM a year right now. If he can excel this year, then pay him.

He has the potential to be elite. He didn't live up to expectations last year, but he came in with a lot of hype after the SB run. I'm excited to see what he can do this year, he was a lot of fun to watch in 2012.

They got some good WRs this offseason with Stevie Johnson and Bruce Ellington. I do think he can bounce back too.

Bolden
Stevie Johnson
Vernon Davis
Crabtree

It's time to make the jump for Kaep.

2013 regular season

Kaep: 3,197 yards, 21 touchdowns, 58 percent completion,8 interceptions

Luck: 3822 yards, 23 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 60 percent completion rating.

Colts leading rusher 2013: Donald Brown 537 yards, 6 touchdowns

49ers leading rusher 2013: Gore 1128 yards, 9 touchdowns

Team defensive ranks: Total defense, SF 4th, Indy 9th

Run game totals: 49ers first, colts 11th

YPD passing totals: Colts first, SF 8th

Luck, drafted one year after Kaep, does more with less defense, less rushing game for help, and with less talented receiving corps. Kaep did nothing to get that team to the superbowl, and did nothing to propel them past the Seahawks this past season with a horrible performance.

Kapernick teetering on elite is laughable.

Elite athlete, average QB.

Dude has rocket arm and is very fast and has great size.

QBs are only as good as their mind though, and he hasn't fully grasped the position.

Now that is laughable.

Played better than your golden boy Manning against that same D - and on the road too.

Promissing young QB. He will have to develop his passing to take the next step. It's yet to be seen if he is capable. Much of his success to date can be attributed to his team.

Manning isn't my golden boy.

And they both got a loss buddy. Kaepernick doesn't even have teetering on edge stats.

His rocket arm does little good when he winds it up so low that it gets stripped from behind, like in the seahawks game. If Kapernick was in Jacksonville, he would be nothing. Would be even less than he is now in Indy.

Do you think he improved in his second season? Personally I don't think he did.

Not really. Like I said, he wasn't important in the 49ers run to the superbowl because I believe they would have been there anyway. Then he gets to the superbowl and does bad.

He is good but no more than that. Benefits from a good team and that is all.

Reminds me of how Phillip Rivers was viewed years ago.

I still think Rivers was an elite QB a couple years back.

He averaged:
103.9 passer rating
329/502 (65.5%)
4324 yards
8.6 Y/A
31 TD
11 INT

He lost a lot of weapons after '10 and forced a lot of things imo. Bad plays and such, but I would consider Rivers elite compared to kaepernick.

His #s are above average, not even close to elite when you're comparing it to Rodgers, brees, manning, and brady

elite no, I think he falls just outside of the top 10. In the Cutler, Smith, Stafford grouping.

360 total yards with 2 TDs is bad?

Threw a horrible interception, and then after that did good. He gets way too much credit for his legs.

The dude is not close to elite. Isn't better than Luck, definitely not stafford.

Rather surprised at the objectivity in this thread, it must be the offseason.

Good with the potential upside of great. As alluded to previously, the setup is there for a breakout year.

However the Niners will always be a run-first ball control team under Harbaugh, and so Kaepernick will never consistently put up mega yardage or TD numbers. For some that is the hallmark of an elite QB, but in the system, he's not going to be a volume stats person. 250 yards passing, a few TDs, limited turnovers, and high competition percentage on a weekly basis is just fine.
