if he gets in Colston better get in too
Posted on 3/2/12 at 11:26 am to chalmetteowl
unfortunately Colston hasn't even made a Pro Bowl yet
yeah, but I do not think Ward is a HOFer. He certainly isn't a lock, but the Stillers certainly seem to have a lot of pull in Canton.

not sure Colston has the longevity of Ward. I am not saying I think Ward should get in, but I am saying his numbers say he should. This is more of a longevity vs 'eliteness' (however that's defined) discussion for HOF.

you can't argue sports with yinzer, pittsburgh is one of those extremely sheltered cities esp with their sports their players can do no wrong and are always the best

Never considered Ward an elite WR or a hall of famer

The HOF should be reserved for the elite of elite. He's good, nobody here is saying Ward is some scrub. He just isn't HOF worthy.

LC Greenwood and Donnie Shell would like a word with you.

Two Steeler legends who are HOF's
Swann:
Receptions 336
Yards 5,462
Touchdowns 51
Stallworth:
Receptions 537
Receiving Yards 8,723
Touchdowns 63
I would say Ward deserves to be in the HOF
Ward:
Receptions 1,000
Receiving Yards 12,083
Receiving TDs 85
Swann:

Yards 5,462
Touchdowns 51
Stallworth:

Ward:
Receptions 1,000
Receiving Yards 12,083
Receiving TDs 85

Someone please explain to me how this isn't HOF worthy. Plus Hines is arguably the best blocking WR of all time.

Swann got in because of his highlight superbowl catches
Also try and make more relavant comparsions
Cris Carter
Andre Reed
Tim Brown
All these guys havent been inducted after a ton of attempts and they have better/comparable stats

What about HOF Michael Irvin, does he pass your relevant test?
Receptions 750
Receiving yards 11,904
Touchdowns 65
Hines stats are comparable/better than Irvins.

You must be 15 years old if you think Hines is comparable to Irvin. Irvin was one of the most physically dominant receivers I've ever seen. He was an absolute monster and fearsome to play against. Irvin is the perfect case of someone whose impact on the field was far greater than his individual statistics even though his statistics were still pretty damn good. And as a fan of a divisional rival from the Steelers, I was always more scared of Plaxico Burress beating us than Hines Ward back when Ward was in his prime. Burress had a bigger impact on the game. I bet teams gameplanned to take away Burress than they did to negate Hines.

This
Yea, remember people that Ward played the Slot Reciever. Good luck finding another Slot guy that's remotely in the same category as Ward. Dude was cracking LBs ribs for 15 years. Plus he put up great numbers. How that guys body held up for so long is a mystery. He is a HOF, no question.

First ballot maybe not.
But Swan and Stallworth are both in I believe so Hines deserves it. Team records, 2 rings, three trips, SB MVP....???
I don't see the hate.
Sometimes you guys think this is the baseball HOF. Much harder to get in.
