Helmet question

Look at the link. The Clemson player has a normal looking smooth surface helmet. The Notre Dame player has what looks to be a six sided pop out section in the front. Why the difference?

If you have watched one quarter of football this season, you will know that that is a type of helmet that every team has. It is just up to the players which helmet they prefer

All i am asking is what is the purpose of the section.

Chi has been wearing one this season along with some of our other players. It has some kind of force detection in it for concussion detection

Monitors the force of a hit to the head so they know when to initiate concussion protocol even if the symptoms are visible and also has some sort of designed padding to limit the effects of whiplash. Started testing them in the spring at Marruci's facility

I'm not sure if it has any sensors in it but the cutout section has squishy material behind it to less the impact in that location. The speed flex also has a little bit more coverage to the sides of the face than the Speed and Speed 360. It's more like a speed and Revolution met and made a baby with more concussion protection. I think the air bladder is better than the 360 aswell

That is correct good sir. I just read an article (I'll try to find it when I get home) and it talked about how we were one of the first schools to try out the helmet and they had sensors that monitored how powerful and the quantity of hits taken to the head

I think that might've been a specialty helmet. The speed flex doesn't ship with any sensors or hookups for sensors. I know that LSU got dibs on Schutt camera helmets and some sensor helmets but the ones they use on the field aren't much different from the normal speeds, just extra protection with the new face mask and a little heavier.
