Has there ever been a football player worth using for only the CFP final?

Reading through the college football news of the day, players can now play in four games and still count that as a redshirt.

There's also the stipulation that post season games don't count for players that early enroll, they must burn a whole year of eligibility.

I didn't even know this was possible WITH sacrificing a year.

Obviously teams that make the CFP final have elite players, but has there been a previous top two team you can think of from any year past that had a recruit worthy of burning an entire year to play with essentially no practice?

A great kicker could be worth it if the team has a poor kicker

That's really interesting.

And true. Some of those Alabama teams may have gone that route.

Ricky Jean Francois though he played in the SEC title before that.

Yes, obviously. A freak of nature, consensus number 1 who is open about wanting to get to the NFL as soon as possible won't be burning anything.

The question is only if somebody is good enough to contribute.

Reggie Bush returning punts would be an example.

All these players were a part of the team for the entire year.

I'm talking about early enrollee freshmen that graduate early.

They may have to sit out a year if they go early due to current NFL rules.

you're thinking it about it the wrong way. No one is going to waste a year of eligibility of their best prospect for a slightly better shot at the title.
Kicker as mentioned earlier is probably the only scenario I see this happening

If they are leaving early anyway, what would it matter?

They probably couldn't go pro after their second full year based on the current NFL rules.

Oh. No. Are EE even officially enrolled before bowl practices end?

You did a terrible job of wording this.

Classes start Jan 3 or 4 roughly.

This year the CFP final was Jan 7.

It's highly, highly unlikely this ever happens. I didn't even know it was allowed and it shocked me.

Bush and Percy harvin were the first 2 players I thought of.

Players that are just on a completely different level in terms of what they can do with the ball in their hands. No time to learn plays or schemes. Just put them in space and get the ball in their hands.

Yes. Yes they are. Rules are weird though. I don’t think they can even travel with the team or the clock starts.

I could see a consensus #1 RB recruit being able to do it if the #1 RB tore his ACL in the conference championship.
