This was in 1978 when there were simply two divisions in each league. The Yankees were in 4th place in the AL East 14 games behind Boston in mid-July and made an incredible comeback. Actually New York had a one game lead on the final day of the regular season but they lost and Boston won to force a one game, winner take all. ABC showed the game but somehow Yankees' network WOR was able to show this game. Bill White, former Yankee player himself is on the call.

"Deeeep to left!"

Remember it well. Lou Pinella also made a great catch after loosing the ball in the sun.

If I recall he did make a great play. However he did lose the ball in the sun and pounded his glove to indicate he had it. He did not and while the batter got to first his nonchalant display of attempting to field the high fly prevented a Red Sox runner from leaving second early and maybe scoring.
