You are correct . It's a show. Doesn't matter who wins. Fans want to see dunks, alley oops , long range 3's. You certainly don't want to see King James twisting an ankle or someone missing the rest if the season because if an exhibition game. The ASG is like watching a two hour circus. Just watch and enjoy.

This.
Could you imagine the uproar if someone like Lebron or Steph Curry got hurt in an ASG and missed the playoffs. Teams would throw a fit and it wouldn't be surprising to see players from championship contenders actually skip the ASG or play very few minutes (either on their own or at the request of their coach or GM). Paul George breaking his leg playing for Team USA is still fresh in everyone's mind, so another exhibition game injury to a star would hurt the ASG a whole lot more than lack of defense

it was laughable
i feel for the fans, watching guys run up and down the court uncontested for dunks and jumpshots(3's), is nothing but a glorified shoot around, for a premium price.
This past NFL pro bowl was bad, but usually neither of the other 3 try to force a warm up/shoot around as the real game.

the ASG got considerably more "open" after this
it's just not worth it to anyone. wouldn't be shocked if there is an unwritten rule/mandate about this in fact
