Instead of just agreeing to disagree, why not consider his point and examine this nation's history a little more closely?

Because there are flaws in his point. I’ve laid them out throughout this thread. Not going to debate with another person.

It’s funny how he suddenly has a lot to say to the media when politics come up. I wish the media people would just give him the same treatment he gives them when he switches from basketball to race baiting. I wonder if he’s just angry because accutane didn’t exist when he was a kid.

Motherfricker wasn't flapping his lips about politics when he was a game away from getting canned back in 1999, blee dat. It's never been a secret around here that he's an arrogant leftist at heart, but now he figures he has the professional capital to afford yacking on and on about this shite.

Hell, he could be MAGA'ing his arse off. I wouldn't give a shite. How about give us a straight fricking answer about why our superstar player can't stay on the floor? How about not rushing Parker back from injury just to bench him for Murray? How about not fricking WASTING what could be Manu's last year with the Spurs?

Jesus Christ, he's treated this season like a throwaway year, and all the while yammering about how much he hates Trump. frick his drunk arse, I don't give a frick what he thinks about going on in Washington. Your job is to keep the Silver and Black machine here in San Antonio winning, pendejo.

Spurs have become irrelevant

Wait, what?

It's the goddamn truth. Any Spurs fan worth their salt knows that this year's team has zero in the way of chemistry. Zero in the way of consistency. Zero in the way of identity. The late-game execution this season (including last night's debacle) has been the most horrid I've ever seen from a Pop-coached team. Shorthanded? I don't give a shite, and neither does the rest of the NBA.

His SJW bullshite is becoming bigger than the team. This time of year should be about gearing up/performing during the annual Rodeo Road Trip, giving us a timeline for Kawhi, and keeping the focus on the upcoming stretch run. EVERYTHING else is secondary to that. That's the way it's supposed to be in this town.

Yes, I'm pissed. This shite from him and from the Spurs this season is out of character. Can't even start to blame it all on one guy being hurt, either. It starts with Gregg.

So shut the frick up, Pop.

Solid rant. I wish people would just remember that sports are entertainment. Nobody is paying for your progressive lectures.

I have no fricking idea. And I live here, goddammit

I get that SA is usually pretty tight-lipped. I remember how controversial it was back when he benched Timmy even though he could have probably played. This is different, though. He's kept us in the dark about this the entire year. Then strung us along. Just shut him down or set a fricking timeline for his return, is all I ask. That's not going to upset the apple cart in terms of chemistry. Our guys don't even know who's going to be on the floor half the games this year.

For frick's sake, we're 1 season removed from making the WCF and beating an upstart without our starting PG and SF, and instead of taking the next step (or even just treading water), we're regressing as the year goes on. And Pop's teams have never traditionally been "flip the switch" type groups, either, so something else out of character has to happen for us to get back to anything resembling a contender.

I don't even know who these frickers are out there on the floor wearing "Spurs" across their chest these days, man.

And the weird thing about all this is the Spurs are still like the 3rd West seed currently, this SJW spiel straight comes off as distraction politics though Pop would've been wise not to use divisive rhetoric in creating the distraction-isn't usually received too well

Exactly. Sports is one of the precious few mediums that can cut across so many cultural, geographic, political, and ideological lines (to name a few). Few things can galvanize a community more. Hell, the fact that my all-time favorite athletes in basketball and football aren't even Americans (Manu Ginobili and Dat Nguyen) is a testament to the transcendence of athletics.

Yes, everyone has a right to express their opinions. But why would you willingly sacrifice that platform for unity in order to get down in the dirt and sling mud at half your fanbase? I'd want as many people supporting me as possible, politics be damned. Plus, there's already so much divisiveness already. Is Pop speaking out for or against Trump REALLY going to be the voice that sways people's minds? Of course not. It's just another one adding to the muck and taking away from the game.

If he wants to go into politics, that's fine. Just let someone else coach my beloved Spurs. That's what I care about with the All Star break looming.

He needs to move to most of Asia, the Middle East and all of South America and then get back to us on his report on how racist America is.

His arrogance is palpable. There are some people that are snarky but you know that’s just their sense of humor or whatever. Pop has genuine disdain for most people.

I understand what he's saying, and yes we have racists in this country, and that's unfortunate. But that doesn't make the US a "racist country" as a whole.

Yeah that angers me, too. It's not like this is a bad team. Yeah, our straw that stirs the drink is gone, and that's a colossal disadvantage, but there's plenty to fight for if you play your cards right. But he's gone about this year like it's a lost cause already.

It's just so weird after having grown accustomed to a certain demeanor from him/his teams. I know they're not robots, but for frick's sake, act least act like you give a damn about taking the next step after making the WCF and returning most of your core.

It's about mass appeal, not 1-2 demographic appeal because at some point that schtick's gonna alienate some of your audience if you persist

I actually disagree--he's also known well around the community for random acts of kindness out the wazoo. Every year I hear some new story about something he did for someone in town that he didn't even want the credit for. When the cameras are off and he's away from the court, I think he's a genuinely nice guy by all accounts (have never met the man in person myself).

But his schtick around basketball only works if he's winning. Being churlish and popping off about politics when your team's record for 50 win seasons is in jeopardy and no one has a clue when Kawhi is coming back just isn't a good look at all.
