tennis: navrataiova. no, she wouldn't have beaten the men, but she was dominant. her record is amazing.

359 total tournament championships. 18 singles grand slam titles, 31 doubles grand slam titles, ten mixed doubles grand slam titles (the last one was won when she was 50).

she introduced strength training to tennis. she changed the game, for both men and women.

I've always heard Ruth was about 6'1 or 6'2 and around 215-220ish during his peak physically. I'm not sure how he would hold up against some of the freak athletes nowadays. I know he struggled w/ eating, drinking, and smoking. Over time, I am not sure he would be able to consistently produce great numbers w/ the type of athlete today.

BUT.. Look it up. He was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much better than everyone else when he played its not even close. NO athlete can say this[Maybe Wayne]

This does not change the fact that he ran train on the rest of the league. Look up his stats for real. It was a fricking joke how good he was.

Touche. But when I usually think of G.O.A.T., I like to imagine how he/she would have faired against athletes at any time during their respective sport's history.

NBA -- Bill Russell
MLB -- Babe Ruth

Golf -- Jack Nicklaus, until Tiger Woods gets 18 majors

Obvious choice for hockey. But I don't watch hockey. I don't know much about it. So really I wouldn't be qualified to say that except based on what I've been told

Comparing generations is really tough because of the differences in the human physique and technological improvement. Ruth could flat out hit with pop.

Wilt Chamberlain. The gap between him and everyone else during his time is easily one of the biggest in sports history.

But he's not the GOAT

Nothing wrong with this. BUT Facts are FACTS and stats are stats.

I'll admit. I can not argue his stats. He put up some remarkable numbers. I know his physical stature was almost Paul Bunyan like compared to the common athlete of his day but I am solely comparing him physically to today's athlete.

ETA: I do believe he was one of the greatest to play the game.

If you are comparing him to today's athletes does he get the benefits of today's medicine/nutrition & steroids

That's because Russell had the heart of a champion and Chamberlain was the ultimate prima donna. In terms of size and talent, they're not comparable.

Mikan- yes
Chamberlain- yes

OK. But when they both played Russell was the only thing close to Size as WILT and he STILL OWNED HIS arse when it mattered most.

He didn't own Wilt. The Celtics owned the Sixers, and every other team.
