Yeah, but we saw him at his peak ('97). He wasn't replicating that ever again.

The Philadelphia Eagles (TO era) had a rookie safety/kick returner JR Reed who blew out his leg jumping a fence running from the Police back home in Florida, not sure if he ever suited up again

Ali -- He was still improving in 1967. When he came back in 1971 he had lost speed that he was never able to regain

If anything this probable worked out well for Ali as far as legacy goes. Think about it the top heavyweights in the 3 years Ali couldn't fight were Jimmy Ellis, Joe Frazier, Jerry Quary and Oscar Bonavena 4 guys he would beat later on anyway. Ali also probable fights Frazier earlier in his career and beats him handedly and there is no trilogy.

Not relevant. Frazier wasn't ready to Fight ALI till the 1st one. BUT I agree IF they had fought in 1967 ALI would have crushed him.

Mickey Mantle

How he accomplished what he did with the worst knees in the history of the world is somewhat remarkable.

Plus he was way hungover every game. He missed over 1,000 games due to injuries. Project his per game stats and there would be no question who would the GOAT in baseball. He was a freak athelete.

They would of fought in 69 or 70 and Ali would of beaten him handedly and there would of been no trilogy

I disagree. In 69 or 70 Frazier could have still handle himself. BUT. ALI brought it on himself. Lets NOT forget WHY he didn't have those times to box. Think about it.

I will NOT use STUPID IN THIS THREAD. But yes most guys had a few beers the night before. HE overdid it. YES he missed a ton of games and IF he would have taken better care of himself, he may NOT have had ALL those injuries.

I would toss Michael Laudrup in there. Sometimes, he looked as brilliant as anyone, but other times, it almost seemed like he did not give 100%. Not he truly qualifies for this list, but I think he may be worth mentioning.

My only argument against Feller was that he got started a lot earlier than most. Damn he was awesome.
