I'm not saying this at all, chill out. I'm just curious as to the details of it. Because that situation isn't an auto DQ as some people in this thread are saying.

And just because he's the head pro at a "big time course" means absolutely nothing

The entire key is this..

The Committee must determine whether the competitor has committed a serious breach of the applicable Rule.

Every committee will determine a person taken a hazard drop for a lost ball as a serious breach.

I have been in a tournament where this wasn't the case, and it wasn't some local POS amateur event

what if they mistakenly took a hazard drop for a ball that went OB? Would that be an automatic DQ or a 2 shot penalty?

Thats because he has wised up to take the Bridgestone, Nike, Titleist and Taylormade balls out.. He sells them separately. I actually found about 20 various good balls today

In that case, they have to catch it before teeing off on the next hole, and go back and play it correctly, and add 2. Otherwise, it's DQ. Serious breach because of the advantage gained

It kinda does when there is a PGA tour event at the place. Pretty sure he's seen a lot of rulings in his day

We were right so I don't really care. And another pro in this thread is agreeing so I'm good

You would have to go and check where the hazard stopped and OB started or if there was hazard markings. If not, DQ.

It's not like he's out doing the rulings. Same way the USGA guys all think they know the rules, and they don't even get to work the Open, PGA Tour officials are brought in as independent contractors

Not saying you weren't

This is from the 2012 rules and decisions:

quote:

Rule 20-7c. Playing from Wrong Place; Stroke Play
Note 3 is amended so that if a player is to be penalized for playing from a
wrong place, in most cases the penalty will be limited to two strokes, even if
another Rule has been breached prior to his making the stroke.

Now I'm getting confused.

Not sure why you see this as a serious breach of the rules yet not the lost ball scenario. To me they are very similar.

I understand that but he has seen that being ruled or determined on the exact same hole in tournament play

Kinda wish I wouldn't have even posted this now. I'm tryin to defend the ruling when I know it was right
