I do not get the problem. If you are using a belly putter it is because on a professional level "suck" you have the yips. And until you can get past it you will only be a streaky putter.

Here are the top 25 putters on tour last year. 1 guy uses a method that will banned in 2016. If the USGA can explain how this is the issue facing the game, I'll be for it. This is not proof of anything. Great putters will be great putters regardless of what putter they use. The guys who use anchored putters aren't great putters, and therefore would not be on this list either way.

I think the ban of the anchored putter has nothing to do with the best putters on tour, but is trying to put everyone on a level playing field. certain players have achieved significant benefits by using the anchored putter... Adam Scott for one. Players that at one time struggled with 8 footers change styles and are nearly automatic from that distance.

IMO I think banning them is dumb if everyone can use them. But I thought banning square grooves was dumb too. I put changing this putting style in the same category of the square grooves and the sidesaddle putting... didn't have to be made illegal, but it was.

Sidesaddle is legal. Can't straddle the line

Is it bad that I knew some know-it-all would chime in to make this distinction?

Nah...just clarifying because I've been seriously debating going to sidesaddle. Everytime I've played around with it the putts just go in... Thinking of buying a custom sidesaddle putter, but wonder now if its worth it since you can't anchor the club.

Exactly. Which is why a worldwide ban of it is completely unnecessary..

They have completely botched the handling of the ball and the driver, so they are panicking now. The USGA is a joke

The ban was completely unnecessary. Anchored putter players weren't dominating anything, but all of a sudden a couple of guys who weren't great putters are able to be competitive again, so it became an issue for what are probably a handful of players.

If the USGA wants to 'level the playing field,' it should come out with one approved set of clubs and see to it that all PGA Tour players use them. Same with balls. Play the USGA clubs and balls or go home.

I would like to see some statistics. Facts. What is a typical golfers putting average before the belly anchor and after? I'm not sure the advantage is that significant.
