Yesterday was great and today is shaping up pretty well, too. I now I'm in the minority, but Tiger made golf boring for me. The story was simple - either he wins or he doesn't. Now, there are lots of guys you have to pay attention to and the leaderboard is unpredicatble.
And, frankly, even when his crazy shots don't work, there is no more exciting golfer to watch than Mickelson. In an tour full of guys afraid of risk, Phil revels in it. Sure, sometimes he clanks one of the grandstand, but he's never boring. Tiger... well, he was great. But greatness is often boring. His wins were inevitable, it seemed, and I didn't really bother to watch. Why? What was interesting about a guy who was so methodical, so... perfect?
Perfect makes you great. Risk taking makes you interesting.

Still a long way to go though.

I wish bubba would sink a few of those puts

False. I don't see how anyone can watch Phil go triple bogey or Oost nail the double eagle and say they wish Tiger was in it.
Golf doesn't need Tiger, ESPN needs Tiger.

Good Points made,,
I agree with both sides,,,
I just would stay on the edge of my seat when Tiger was either holding On or charging back!!!

For people that dont keep up with golf week in and week out, it sucks without Tiger because he is the only person that they want to see. I keep up with golf, and while I love Tiger, I get a little sick of hearing only about him. Right now, there are a BUNCH of good young golfers out there. The only thing is that only Rory has the star power of Tiger. I think its better for golf when there are more players getting coverage than just Tiger. But, I would love to see Tiger in the Sunday Red dominant the field.

quote:Yeah, that sums it up for me.
it doesn't completely suck, but a Masters Sunday is waaaay better if Tiger is around on the back nine.

Tired of seeing Eldrige's every shot, whether he is near the lead or 12 shots out of it. Golf doesn't NEED him, the TV stations do.

Yeah in the 2000s he brought in a lot of annoying sports fans who know nothing about the game and only watch when he's in the hunt. So it produced cheap ratings for ESPN, CBS, and NBC.
He is not even the best golfer ever and it's a sport where a lot of big names like Nicklaus, Jones, and Palmer have shined in the past. Just because he was the best in an individualist sport in a decade during our generation doesn't mean he has meant more for a sport than anyone else. And once again, the only individual sport even close to the same level of golf is tennis.
