What? Adam's standard response is about the Yankees.

The thing is, on r/baseball and twitter, Yankees fans are by far the most sanctimonious about this whole thing. A lot of it’s value but still that fanbase has been fricking miserable during all this.

there is enough smoke around what the Yankees were doing that I wouldn’t be high and mighty. It’s like recruiting violations. I’ll laugh and make fun of ole miss but I’ll never act like LSU is any better.

We arent on Reddit obviously...
I've stated several times since 2017 when Yankees/Red Sox got looked into, I don't mind sign stealing in the flow of the game, just when you use technology for the advantage. Now maybe the Yankees continued, maybe they modified how they cheated, maybe they quit. We don't know we can only assume, prior to 2017 obviously it was more rampant and overlooked until teams actively started complaining about it.

A lot of comments assume teams have these systems in place but based on the player reaction if they do, some highly respected players have been misinformed, unless you believe it is all an act.

I am not accusing you of being that. I am saying a lot of REEEEE’ing from Astros fans is steaming from getting it from all ends.

Which is justified for the most part. The hate I mean

The Astros just made the logically next step and punishing it further. We rules aren’t bent people will naturally take it further, right or wrong.

But again, know your crowd... I'm on Twitter and it has been fairly mild considering the amount of Yankees writers/personalities I follow. I don't do Reddit because I hate the layout

Addressing the substance of the clip, I'll grant, it's a 30 second snippet so we don't have the full context of the conversation. At the very end, he says "we eventually caught it", I'd like to know what that means but I'm not sure I can find the full video anywhere.

Based solely on the limited info in the clip my question is this...

"Upstairs > dugout > Runner at 2nd"

My assumption is upstairs is referring to the replay room. So they were using video to decode signs and relay that information out to the runner on 2nd base? That's not "organic" sign stealing gathered by the base runner. Its using off the field tech to steal signs and impact an at bat. Isn't all the outrage that the Astros crossed the line of acceptability by using tech to steal signs?

Yes the Astros eliminated the middle man with the trashcan banging system going directly to the batter but the delivery system would seem to be secondary to the act of stealing signs. The idea is to get the pitch selection to the batter before the pitch. This too would seem to be an inorganic system designed to impact the outcome of at bats. I don't see it as a moral exit ramp that it went through the dugout and was "only" when a runner was on 2nd.

Teams (Yankees) may have had that system, Girardi hasn't been a Yankees coach since 17 obviously. MLB issued their statement in the middle of 2017, MLB argues the Astros continued after and used it in the playoffs.

Now did MLB scare off other teams? Probably not
However there is not the evidence to implicate other teams either. If the Yankees, Sox, etc get hit with this then they deserve it but from everything the Astros has a better system and didn't stop.

Funny that you really compare that to what Houston did, but that's to be expected

This

I understood it as him discussing how they caught someone doing that...not that they did that.

It's definitely confusing because he started the sentence with "I was part of a system", but I suspect he was really talking about how they policed it on the field. But, on the other hand, they all chuckled when they asked "How did you do it."

But, like you said, I'd like to see the whole segment.

I haven't read these repeat threads from to back to front as my fricks given level is at an all-time low. Adam has been pretty levelheaded from what little I've seen imo. Haven't seen much of Liberal Lou and the others named. Hoo is the hero we need.

Right. Which kind of flies in the face of the current culture of demonizing the Astros scandal as "unprecedented levels of cheating" and painting this as the biggest scandal in sports history. It would seem that they were doing something that was common up until the commissioner's memo in mid-2017. We do know that the replay system was misused frequently from 2015-2017.

I agree. Were the Astros the 1 team out of 30 who kept doing what they were doing after the Commissioners warning? Now we're only speculating but I'm sure some teams stopped and some teams were as arrogant as the Astros to keep on doing what they were doing. It's important to keep on mind, the only reason we are where we are is because Mike Fiers went turncoat which sparked the commissioners investigation that exchanged player immunity for their cooperation in building the timeline. Without Fiers talking, this scandal doesn't happen. It only takes 1 guy. Remember the Yankees had been accused of using the YES cameras to steal signs but MLB couldn't substantiate that....all it takes is a Mike Fiers to break the silence.

Adam's main schtick is the Yankees and trying to call me out when I post

I haven't read all of them because like I said it reminds of of Lee/Jefferson threads where people just circle the wagon

MLB found no evidence of the Yankees using them for that reason and Yankees were fined an undisclosed amount due to the incident in 2017 with the Sox. Maybe that was enough to get them to scale way back and maybe what Cora keeps referring to is Beltran knew HIS system because they both came up with it together. We will never know however, the Astros were arrogant enough to continue and they were punished. The Red Sox are about to be punished but not to the extent because they did not have the same level of cheating/conspiracy/knowledge from top to bottom/whatever it is.
