Well, Fight Island just took a major blow. His welrerweight title bout against Kamaru Usman is off after testing positive for coronavirus.
Slight good news at least is Burns wasn't on the charter flight down there

After the news broke last night Masvidal tweeted some definition of gamebred thing. I think he’s going to end up taking the fight on a weeks notice. Way more interested in seeing Masvidal in this fight than Burns anyways.

I think Masvidal will be a better matchup. They shot Burns up those rankings very quickly. I know you have to move him up with wins over Maia and Woodley, but I think everyone that watched saw a Woodley that did not want to be in that octagon

Masvidal-Usman is a huge fight for ppv.
I love Masvidal but Usman is an absolute animal.
Dana is an idiot if he doesn't schedule this that fight, though. Either your card falls apart or you give Masvidal his shot.
I guess Jorge is basically always at weight if he can take a fight on 7 days notice.

Usman masvidal is a great fight. I think usman wins but if he doesn’t the. You can set up the Covington masvidal grudge match

There is no way that Dana doesn't pay Masvidal here. He can't have his first card on Fight Island derailed like this

Dana can't afford to bomb this ppv. If he's got to pay Masvidal double or triple the standard $500k, then he's got to do it.
With this matchup, he'll actually make way more money off ppv buys. I didn't give a shot aboit Burns v. Usman.
Usman v. Masvidal, though, is a much flashier headliner. The match will also get all kinds of publicity this week.

Yeah usman is as close to the perfect mma fighter as you can get. Has great wrestling, great strength, great cardio, great will, and decent striking. Masvidal can definitely catch him though... so usman better fight smart.

I was still buying this, but they are actually making this card better with adding Masvidal if this happens.
I'd like to see Neil Magny continue to rise. I think he would be a good five-round fighter in welterweight if we're trying to find someone to contend with Usman

Magny is an even lesser known fighter than Gilbert Burns. At least they had a month or two to hype Burns up... Magny is a total and complete unknown to most casual sports/UFC fans.
He's not who you debut the Fight Island main event with. Get George signed tonight and announce him tomorrow.

Helwani says Masvidal is the guy and ufc is currently in negotiations and they are "optimistic" but they still have to both pass 3 negative tests plus fly to UAE.
Helwani suggests that if the UAE thing is a big hurdle overcome... Just hold the main event in Vegas, while all the other fights take place on Fight Island.

If Dana can get Jon Jones out of a positive steroid test then he can get masvidal thru 3 COVID tests. Cmon uncle Dana make it happen.
