The NBA should take a lesson from the NFL on how to run a league full of choirboys.

The fine print, is Wizards can't void Arenas contract IF he serves jail OUTSIDE NBA Season, If serves jail time during nba season, Wizards can void the contract

It seems like the NBA season goes on forever so they might have a shot after all..

I'm pretty sure I heard that he has to serve jail outside the WIZARDS' season, not the whole NBA. Big difference.

Gilbert Arenas is the smartest man on the planet
-1 year suspension to continue to rehab his injuries
-he's going to get his contract bought out for probably $30-50M
-THEN he's going to be a free agent and get a new contract

all for serving 1-3 months (my guess) in prison for bringing UNLOADED guns to his locker

This is a horrible premise for an illogical post. Even following the steps you laid out here (which I think are better than what Arenas is going to get), Arenas is going to lose 50 million dollars (not counting the 5 million dollar contract he signs as a free agent), is not getting paid to 'rehab his injuries' and is going to jail for a few months. How are any of those things beneficial?

Add to it that his contract will probably be voided (Wizards may pay a buyout when this goes to court), he is not the same player that he once was after his injury, teams are strapped for cash, teams have a few more years of evidence that arenas cant put a team over the top, and arenas has played 47 games in three seasons. He also hurt his marketability and removed any doubt about his problems with maturity.

In summary, Arenas cost himself a shitload of money, is not getting paid at all for the next several months (call me crazy, but I don't see Gilbert as a big money saver), and is probably going to jail. I don't know that we can apply "smartest man on the planet" to this guy.

they can't void his contract b/c he's being suspended by the league. teams can't take action against a player if the NBA does. also what arenas did likely isn't bad enough to have his contract voided

Based upon what I'm hearing you may want to hold off on your analysis for a few days.

i think it was 4-5 handguns. all unloaded

it seems to me you don't think this is a big deal. You don't think he deserves the punishment he is getting? He broke a major part of an agreement between the NBA and the player's union, not to mention he broke the law. You say it isn't a big deal because the guns were unloaded...but if you are lax are this, then people are going to continue to do it until people are bringing loaded guns to the locker rooms. Honestly I haven't listened to a lot about this story except for things I've read on here, but I'm just curious. I hear the guns were unloaded. I understand that, but were the bullets there and just not loaded...or did he just have guns with no bullets around at all?

LOL at being gullible to believe this.

This really doesn't remotely explain why he brought the guns. That story makes no sense at all.
