In the meantime, James’ already untouchable status as one of the greatest ever to play only continues to rise — among his peers if not among the general public.

“Some guys might say he is No. 2, but other guys like me, I say he is No. 1, and he’s still going,” said Giannis Antetokounmpo, putting it plainly that he believes James is the best NBA player ever, ahead of Michael Jordan.

Jordan typically is the favorite in that barbershop argument — he beat out LeBron as greatest, according to a panel of NBA experts at The Athletic two years ago. Last year, in The Athletic’s annual player poll, Jordan again won the vote, but more players than ever picked James over Jordan.

Why is it better to not make the finals than to get there and lose? I don’t understand that argument.

John Havlicek
KC Jones
Tom Sanders

All 8-0 in the finals

Giannis thinks that because he luckily never had a chance to get owned by MJ.

MJ failed in many seasons. Unless losing before the finals is a win?

I can’t find those old MS Paint pictures from back then. Those were hilarious.

That shirt would have been peak troll, except getting absolutely owned by Lebron in games 6 and 7 in that series for him to come back and win kinda makes it weak

If I had the power to guaranteed MJ 4 rings at the beginning of his career but that he had to lose the finals 6 other times, he would’ve choked me on the spot.

And his team went to the Conference Finals without him while he sucked at baseball.

This is one discussion where the age and experience of the media is a positive. They witnessed Jordan during. These players never played against or really saw what the big deal about Jordan really was. It'll be the same for Lebron in 20-30 years.

Just like it was for Kareem, Magic, Dr. J, etc. Rinse and repeat.

This has always been such a dumb statistic.
