Merci beaucoup!
defense had their 3rd straight game giving up 25 SOG or less. Hope they can keep it up heading into the playoffs.

Ottawa loses in a SO.
Pens can clinch playoff spot with a regulation win at Ottawa on Tues. Whatever a regulation win is I forgot.

Leafs win, so.... CAPS CLINCH!
On February 12, the Senators were NINETEEN points behind the Penguins. After tonight, they are 2 points down with 3 games to go. That is a nigh on impossible comeback.
The Isles magic number is down to 1, so let's assume they are in the postseason as well. So the remaining 3 slots will be a dogfight.
Boston 95
Detroit 95
Pittsburgh 95
Ottawa 93
All three teams have three games left. Should be an epic week. Sens play the Pens on Tuesday. As much as I'd love to ruin the Bruins shot at the postseason, I'd prefer the Caps rest Holtby against the Bruins. Best subplot?
If the Penguins miss the playoffs, the Oilers own their 1st round pick (lottery unprotected), which would give the Oil a second shot at the McDavid sweepstakes. The Penguins' bill is coming due. They have $45.5 million committed to just 8 players in 2016-17. They have $32.5 million committed to just 4 players in 2018-19. And two of those players are Fleury and Letang. Huge offseason for the Pens and their new management.

I have a pretty good feeling the Pens will clinch in Ottawa on Tuesday, just a gut feeling.

Yeah but that's Canadian Media, everybody knows they are biased because they don't get a chance to watch hockey teams from Puerto Rico and sub saharan Africa....

I'm just proud that Alex Ovechkin has now moved into the rarified air of Shaq: a player who is obviously the best player in the game, but we don't want to give him the trophy, so the writers just invent an excuse each year not to vote for him and find some alternate candidate. Hey, I get it. Y'all are bored of Ovie collecting all the MVP trophies. Might as well spread it around a bit. Now, I'd prefer if you came up with a case for Tavares, but I can live with Price winning it.

The guy also picked the wild to win the cup
I guess Canadian beer is stronger eh?

Look, a goalie is ALWAYS the most valuable player. No player has a bigger impact on a team's record than a goalie. If we're being honest, a goalie would win the award every single year, and get nearly every vote in the top 10. So, we give the goalies their own award, and the MVP goes to the top skater.
Just by virtue of time on ice, a goalie is more valuable. The only reason there is movement THIS YEAR to give the award to a goalie is because Ovie is far and away the top skater, and they don't want to give him the trophy again. Which is fine, if a little ridiculous.

Ironically enough, the last Goalie to win a Hart trophy?
......Jose Theodore of the 2001-2002 Montreal Canadiens. He ABSOLUTELY DOMINATED shitty teams, with a .942 save percentage and a 16-11-1 record against teams with or below a .500 winning percentage. Of course, like Price this year, he had a losing record against the top 1/3 of the league. So if you want to make highlight saves and padded stats your benchmark, then by all means go ahead
Seriously though look at the talent on this habs team, give the Hart to Ben Bishop if you are going to give it to a goalie.

Dominik Hasek is my standard. He won the Hart in 1997 and 1998. If you play goalie like Hasek, by all means, get the Hart. Marty Brodeur, on the other hand, never won the Hart. And he was far and away the best player on a dynasty.

A goalie should never win the Hart unless he does the following:
Has 20 shutouts
Has a GAA below 1
Has a Save Percentage of 94 plus
OR
Comes in at midseason and just carries a team to the playoffs, meaning home ice until CF, from being out of the playoffs.
As Baloo has stated they get the Vezina so that is there reward for MVP.

The Davan Dubnyk clause? OK, they won't have home ice, but is there anyone who thinks the Wild won't be even money or even favorites against the Ducks in the first round? The Wild are 26-7-2 in his starts, 18-19-6 when anyone else does.

See though he did not have home ice. You could say Hammond has earned more MVP honors than CP31 and Dubnyk.

Two huge games in the west tonight.
Minnesota / Winnipeg: Minnesota can build on the lead for first wildcard, Winnipeg if they win would jump the Kings if:
Kings / Canucks ......the Canucks win
Alternatively, the Kings with a win can get into the third playoff spot?
