Listened to Alonso and Norris.

Alonso asked and they told him they were waiting on race control. He then expressed frustration saying the call needed to be made sooner when I got the order.

Landos team told him that Alpha Tauri pitted and we’re behind Carlos and he needed to keep them behind while telling him lapped cars couldn’t overtake (not sure if they were told that or assumed because they gave him wrong information.) Later they told him to overtake and he confirmed. (They also said Alonso had DRS and then corrected, so I’m not sure what McLaren was doing.

I’ll listen to more later, but there didn’t seem to be a huge preference in the moment.

Off the top of my head, Alonso, Ricciardo, Sainz (who said it should end under yellow), and Norris all said they thought it was unusual or not correct.

Alonso talking to his engineer ask where Max was and when told 2 cars behind you Alonso remarked well he should be two cars ahead of me (right behind Hamilton). He also called the result "a little bit of justice"

quote:

“That was pure luck, we have to be honest about that,” the Alpine driver said to Ziggo Sport. “On the other hand, he was unlucky so often this season, now it’s more balanced. So it’s a little bit of justice.”

That being said I doubt either Fernando or Lewis have Christmas cards in the post to each other.

Plus, WDCs are portable in a way, they follow the driver

Unless you are Mclaren.

Not sure rhe WDC trophy for sure, but the winning trophys are property of Mclaren. The drivers can get a copy.

Think that Prost can be thanked for that.

Lewis apparently lifted and allowed the gap to Max to shorten a bit and that was deemed good enough by Masi.

I think the stewards ruled that, not Masi.

He has been trashing Max lately it seems. Angling for the MB seat when Lewis retires?

Really? Him and Max are somewhat tight.

I really don't think many, if any, drivers really have a beef with each other. I think they give honest answers sometimes and it is seen as smack.

I have only heard that no one like Ocon.

TC made a comment that when Lewis came into the presser after Saudi he was fricking with Max about "what was that about" and Max was laughing about it with him.

Literally told Brundle he wanted Max to win right before he got in his car. He probably is going to play the Mercedes political game, though.

Mindblowing that if you add the wins up of all the other teams combined its still less than half of Mercedes’ win total.

Yea that video perfectly sums up what a few of us have been saying.

I'm a Ham fan, but I don't hate max and I think he is as worthy a champion as we've ever had given his performance this season.

I like that we got a green flag finish.

But the way we got to that green flag finish and max title winning pass was completely fricked and would have never have happened if this was anything but the final race of the year.

Everyone get's a little (or a lot) aggravated how refs call the games differently in the playoffs or at the last 2 mins of a game. This is exactly what happened here and people are thrilled with it because they were rooting for max.

For the people who think Masi handled this correctly, ask yourself this: If the roles were reversed and Max had been dominating the entire race, would you agree with the call to "fudge/augment" the standard safety car procedure to allow a fresh tire'd Lewis to get directly behind a sitting duck Max, handing lewis his 8th WDC?

I mean, if that wouldn't appear to be FIA in the bag for Merc/lewis idk what could.

I kind of equated it to football for someone tonight. 7 seconds to go, Falcons down by 2, and Goodell decides that instead if 4th and 15 from Atlanta's own 15 instead he moves to ball to the Saints 40.

It's not Atlanta's fault, they are just going to kick the field goal and move on.

It makes for much better TV though. And no fault because he asked the NFL and they said he has unabated power.

On a related note. I secured NOLA F1 fans a place to watch reasonably houred races next year. So, when that happens, Dubai I guess, I will see if anyone here is in.

They need to clarify that section of the regs regarding the RD having ultimate authority.

I'd bet a year's salary that not a single drafter of that provision intended it to be interpreted as the RD has supreme control over safety car procedure and has the legal right to ignore the pages and pages of regs regarding that procedure if he so desires.

I'm actually pretty stunned the FIA leaned on that provision to give masi an out because it was so asinine and nonsensical.

FIA didn't. Just the 3 stewards there did. Their interpretation is basically the rules don't matter, Masi can do whatever. 58 laps is a suggestion, he could end it at 55 if he likes.

Think the FIA itself will interpret it different. Not sure it will take a court to settle it though.

They might negotiate with Merc like they have done with Ferrari. Real resolution never reaches the light of day.

Someone rolls up next year "it says 'no' fuel flow can be above 2L per minutes. It doesn't say 'all' fuel flow can't be above 2L per minute.

Not even close to an accurate analogy. Did Masi cause the safety car? The real screw up was that the safety car wasn't deployed earlier and the lapped cars weren't moved up earlier.

In the end, they realized they should have made quicker decisions in the last five laps and fixed it by getting them racing to the end.

So Toto text Max congratulating him on the win… nice gesture.

Just like Horner, they are all competitive, but don’t doubt they have a beer together

They’re in a business where they aren’t home half the year so it’s be pretty miserable if they were alone for most of that. They understand what they’re selling and they sell it well.
