They already confiscated the wing. I think they will have a ruling before the sprint race. FP2 doesnt have any point consequences or anything.

I’m guessing the stewards have the rear facing camera footage from HAM’s car that would presumable show if Max made contact with it or not...I wonder if Sky Sports can show it or if it has been "impounded"...

Yea, also I feel like if they asked max he wouldn’t lie given the circumstances.

Alonso fastest in p2, Hamilton 1.5 off… sandbagging or wing made that big of a difference?

2.5 hours til sprint. Seems like they would announce decision so teams could prep accordingly if they are to change strategy or whatnot.

Max is fined 50,000 euro. No other penalties for him.

Was cheaper for Maz to touch a girls boob… bet Max is wishing he’d chosen differently.

Also from the stewards' report...

The stewards warned all teams and drivers that "future breaches may incur different penalties".

@LewisHamilton
is disqualified from qualifying. He can take part in the sprint from the back or pit lane. Wherever he finishes for the sprint he will drop back 5 places for the Grand Prix tomorrow for his ICE penalty. #skyf1

Judging by the ruling the gap was not consistent across the DRS flap. The edges had more room than the middle.

I can't find the full statement, but the screenshot of it I saw on twitter (linked above) points the finger at either incorrect assembly or some extra "play" within the components at the ends of the wing. Doesn't seem to be intentional.

ETA - found it!

You can read the full statement on this page...

https://www.fia.com/documents/season/season-2021-1108/championships/fia-formula-one-world-championship-14

quote:

The Competitor asserted that the design is intended to meet the regulations. It was
clear to the Stewards that the additional deflection was due to additional play either in
the DRS actuator or the pivots at the end, or some combination or other fault with the
mechanism, or incorrect assembly of the parts. The Stewards heard, from both the
team and the FIA that the same design has been tested many times during the
season and uniformly passed. Further, the FIA has examined the design of the area
of the car in question and are satisfied that the design meets the intent of the
regulation. There is therefore no question in the minds of the Stewards that the test
failure indicates any intent to exceed the maximum dimension either by action or
design.

The FIA is fair and shows no bias towards Mercedes. I am sure this will quell all future accusations.
