Funny how Hamilton wrecked Max at one of the fastest corners in the sport and got the same penalty people get for crossing the white line going into the pits. $$ talks, F1 needed a Hamilton win at home.

It's easy to hate on Hamilton especially after that celly and post race interview.

And a 10 second penalty is nothing for a car that usually finishes 10 seconds ahead of every car but Verstappens.

The hate for Hamilton on this board is often unfair and illogical. He’s a 7 time champ and one of the all time greats.

Having said that, this wasn’t a clean win. Far more than just “racing” when you stick your car in front of the other guy’s racing line. He deserved the penalty but really it worked out for him because the only guy that could beat him was out because of his mistake.

The Hill / Button conversation was influenced by them growing up watching the likes of Senna and Prost. They speculated that Leclerc went wide at Copse to avoid Max's fate. That's why many of these world champions have dodgy incidents in their past — they show everyone that they won't back down, to get a psychological advantage in future battles. If history is any indication, this won't be the last controversial contact between Hamilton and Verstappen.

It's funny that it's Hill and Button talking about it. They are two of the "nice guy" champions who weren't seen as ruthless racers.

No doubt. All of the greats get their elbows out and usually go a little too far now and then. They defy team orders, drive hyper aggressive and don't apologize about either. It's what makes them so much more fun to watch than the guys like Bottas.

I think they said on his radio that he had a puncture.

damn. if Leclerc had a better car he would have smoked Hamilton. oh well.

Ferrari was a lot better on the C2 than the C1s. Wonder if they would have changed their strategy if they knew of the 10s penalty for Hamilton ahead of the restart.

This. The only thing Red Bull is consistent on race weekends is the amount of BS Marko and Horner spit out everytime. All I can see was a racing incident and a big one at that considering the championship implications, but that's F1 for you.

Time for Perez to start making himself useful and taking out ham. Via racing incidents of course.

You make it sound like Hamilton doesn't have a teammate who could repay Max in kind.

People say things when they get heated. The last time Ferrari won at Silverstone, Kimi locked up and hit Lewis on the opening lap. After the race Lewis and James Allison both claimed that it was intentional.

Everyone is prone to showing emotion during and after races. Even fans. So people getting frustrated when Lewis wins in this thread are just invested in the sport. Acting like it's some crime to be frustrated is stupid.

Red Bull actually let Tom Cruise drive their car (and get a ride in a stunt helicopter). And he pays them back by cheering for Mercedes. :smh:

He was a personal guest of Hamilton.

Sad to see max crash early, hope he is ok. I follow the sport pretty closely, but I wouldn’t want to be the one deciding the penalty on that.

I think anyone who is a Hamilton fan says racing incident. Hamilton haters are going to say penalty. It's closer to penalty for me, but I could go either way. That contact has been a long time coming. Both of them were racing hard, and it was awesome. They played a game of chicken, and neither backed down because both of them know what's a stake. Just do happens that Max came out the loser and Hamilton got lucky that he escaped without more damage and had the red flag to repair his wing. So it goes.

Solid day for Ferrari and Mclaren. Constructor standings of 1v2 and 3v4 are going to be great in the second half of the season. Only four points beween the top two and 15 between the next two.

I'm admittedly not the biggest Hamilton fan, but it's always fun to see the hometown hero win in front of his people.

I’d love to see the layover of HAM taking that corner the rest of the race. Wonder if he ever went that wide again? He wrecked TF out of Max, but nothing says you can’t race dirty.

I don’t like Hamilton.

Senna, as he famously said, would go for the gap. And it does intimidate people, and it’s why some drivers are champions and most aren’t.

Senna was very honest about who he was. And he didn’t like the politics, although he did eventually play them.

Look at the pass on Leclerc. Hamilton went way inside and Leclerc took the same line as Max until Leclerc had to bail or face the same fate as Max. LINK

Yea, I even thought Max was cool with the pass…he’d just try to get him back…but frick no, HAM saw he’d get the better of the contact and just drove into him. Max gave him way more track than he needed, HAM knew he’d have to turn in at some point and just played dumb.

Obviously, just my opinion.

Agreed. I kept my eye on the battle between sainz and Daniel. Gotta hand it to Ric for holding onto p5.

From Max:

quote:

First of all: I am glad I’m ok. It was quite an impact at 51G but feeling better

Obviously very disappointed with being taken out like this. The penalty given does not help us in any way and doesn’t do justice to the dangerous move Lewis made on track

Watching the celebrations after the race while still in hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behavior but we move on

This was the race that was needed to take it from friendly rivalry to extra spicy.
