They gotta build a web presence soon though
and KLSU's got all of that .. from an educational standpoint .. the Manship School of Mass Communications has forgetten that the medium of radio does still exist .. so it would be the perfect marriage ..

good question, skillz .. i think he is a walking ad agency of sorts ..

I still can't get over the fact that 1210 AM had one salaried on-air employee, and that guy was Richard Condon? Does that mean that Condon had the most listeners of any radio host in Baton Rouge?
I know that most of his schtick was an act, but did that many people in Baton Rouge actually listen to it consistently?

Well he had the best time slot 4-6. But not sure if he had the most listeners.

Rag reading that article makes it seems like firing an already absent Condon would have been a quick fix for the cost to revenue angle
Posted on 1/3/12 at 11:01 am to bouefbengal
the article certainly pins a lot of the revenue woes on condon .. remember, when ott jumped ship in 2008 to go back over to the new WIBR .. there were no salaried hosts there .. but when condon came back along, it was clear that the station was looking for some ratings umph .. so they hired him .. then gustav blows the WIBR tower over and ott has to come back to a horrible time slot at WSKR ... in the end .. as the article says .. these guys knew some changes were coming ... if they didn't make contingency plans .. shame on them ...

at one time .. on FM radio in the 1990s .. condon was a ratings monster .. but that was in five and ten minute snippets on 100.7 The Tiger, 98.1, and KAJUN ... not doing a two hour talk show where he himself has to carry the whole thing .. the biggest mistake that every programmer made over the last 15 years with him was not recognizing he was at his best when he had someone to play off of .. a straight guy ... why no one ever insisted on him having a partner is beyond me .. also, condon was NEVER a sports talk radio host .. he doesn't really know enough about sports to talk longer than three minutes without the USA Today, the Picayune, and the Advocate in front of him along with a library of cue cards ... condon was great at reading smiley anders column and making fun of people with larry leblanc ... thinking he was going to be a savior was committing suicide for WSKR ..

The funny thing it wasn't an act........if you ever met Rich in person, he was the same person he was when on the air.

that's what i never got .. why he and people would claim it was an act .. he is loud and obnoxious in person .. maybe not as much now that he is in his 50s .. but he was RC 24/7/365 ... if there was a BR broadcasting hall of fame, he'd be in it ...

Condon is a very complex topic and shouldn't be reduced to absolutes. That is for sure

Didn't he go by another name as well?/ Who was the guy bout three or 4 years ago that was a big time buddy guy??? He also took his own life. Or we talkin bout the same fella???
Posted on 1/3/12 at 11:25 am to dukke v
he went by "the goat" on the air .. i can't recall his big buddy's name, but if he killed himself, that would be news to me ..
Posted on 1/3/12 at 11:26 am to dukke v
Man that is sad...I guess years of calling in to the likes of songy and condon can drive a man to dire ends. Pj I'm glad you got out of the call in game
Posted on 1/3/12 at 11:27 am to dukke v
of course, i just found out a few months ago that the old caller "duane" was killed at work .. so i am behind the times ..
Posted on 1/3/12 at 11:28 am to Tiger Ryno
