Then you shouldn't watch sports. You don't get it.

Seriously, why is this so hard to understand?

Spoken like a true New Yorker. Is that why allegiance shifts so quickly from mets to Yankees and Jets to Giants?

Sorry Sam Elliot, but that don't happen.

Fandom in and of itself is nonsensical, I don't get why anyone would try to attach any to it.

The more you post, the more apparent I becomes that you can't possibly comprehend what it means to be a man.

Stop watching sports; start watchin daytime dramas. That's more appropriate for you.

If you don't understand the simple fact that a shared border alone can nurture sports hate, you clearly don't have a penis.

Care to post any pics of yourself? We'd love to see who we're dealing with.

I really do not understand why you are getting upset over someone's allegience to a team. You are being a complete dick about this because Speedy likes some non-local teams that he started to like as a child because they were some of the few teams that were readily available to him. There is nothing wrong this, he is not changing his team, or picking a bandwagon team at an age where you can logically pick your team. You are simply overlooking the fact of how simple it can be select a team for random reasons at a young age. My dad did the same thing as Speedy, so I started rooting for all of his teams. Does that make me a pussy because I wanted to root for the same teams my dad loves and I grew up watching with him year in and year out? Does that make me a bitch because I support my dad's teams that are not from Atlanta even though he never lived in Atlanta until he was 30 years old?

The Lakers are your prostitute, or at best your mail order Russian bride. You had no real connection to them to begin with, other than you thought they were the best looking girl to call your "girlfriend" when you were a kid.

Now that you have a choice with whom you have a legitimate connection, it just seems silly to continue to cling to them, but that's just me.

I'm not making "rules," (and wouldn't really want to) just talking perception.

I'm not reading all 7 pages on my iPhone, but I don't know if child rearing has been mentioned yet. I didn't choose to be a Dallas Cowboys fan. I was born into a family of Cowboys-worshippers despite growing up in North La, South La and South Florida.

Whoever judges someone based on the teams they like is a complete and utter douche.

You like who you like. No one should give a shite.

I made this arguement the other day in the Hornets board. I do not thing geography should trump anything. I have always lived in Baton Rouge, and I have never liked either the Saints nor the Hornets.

For Basketball, I had already found a team that I liked. Granted I was 10~11 when the Hornets came here, but the point is I had already had a team. I would consider myself more of a bandwagon fan for jumping off their ship and joining the Hornets. What makes the Hornets more special then other team? Just because they are located here doesn't mean I have to like them.

Question back to you. If I lived in Texas, and I had two teams for each sport, which one should I choose?

The teams in the city you have the most connection to.

This is sort of spurred by the prevalence of Laker "fans" that were in attendance at the recent Hornets playoff game.

The speculation is that a lot of these folks chose the Lakers as "their" team before the Hornets showed up in New Orleans, and they're still their team. Whether these are "bandwagoners" is a slightly different argument that I don't really want to address here.

What I want to know is, do you agree with my opinion that (especially in regard to professional sports) geography should trump all? If you live in or within an hour's drive of a city, if you consider that city home, and it has a professional team in a particular sport, that team pretty much has to be your team. To claim anything else is pretty lame.

Agree or disagree?
My favorite NFL team is the Saints and my favorite NBA team is the Hornets. However, my favorite MLB team is not the Astros. I grew up watching the Cubs on TV on WGN. That's the only reason why I picked them...because I could watch their games regularly.

See that makes sense if you have a connection. The only connection I have to N.O. is the fact it is within a 100 miles of my house. I hardly ever go there, and when I do it's mostly just passing through.

I think a better way to look at it is like this. Are you a fan of the team, of the players, or of the city? If you a fan of the them then you should still like the Jazz. If you are a fan of the players then you should like CP3 if he gets traded. If you are a fan of the city then you can like the city without having to like the sports team.

For me I am a fan of the players(NFL wise). Teams don't matter much to me, and I only follow the players I like. Ex: I liked Brett Farve since I was little. I didn't care he was traded to the NJ an Min.

What does New Orleans offer me, other the 1 street, that I cannot find in Baton Rouge?

Yet, I'm an Arsenal fan.

That should answer your question about whether or not I agree with your geography thing.

Plus, I currently live in Atlanta. There's no way in hell that I'm pulling for the Falcons.

Exactly. I know that a lot of people who I went to HS with, and their parents, hate New Orleans. It doesn't really have anything special...
