i can say with 100% conviction that wasnt the case where i grew up. the cubs were literally on daily
That was during the Sammy Sosa era and home run chase hoopla. The Cubs weren't maximizing their earning potential with all their games on WGN, since the Tribune owned the network and team. They knew the home run chase was a hot commodity and could generate more revenue from the higher cable rights fees if Sosa was on cable more. So, they moved more WGN broadcasts to cable. During the home run chases, ESPN bought more broadcast rights to Cubs games, so Sosa could still be seen on national TV. The Cubs maintained their national visibility while making more money.
WGN on the other hand optioned broadcasts to the White Sox to fill the programming lineup and they did, for a season or two, technically have more games on WGN than the Cubs. It's pretty much been equitable ever since.
FWIW, I think the Cubs have 60 games on WGN this year and the Sox have 56.

Mets/Yankees play six times a year.
Islanders/Rangers play six times a year.
Jets/Giants play 0.25 times a year.
That's probably the biggest reason why.
Islanders/Rangers makes sense for that reason. However, six out of 162 is basically nothing (especially since they're not in the same league) and it was still like that before Interleague began. You basically "can't" cheer for both Yankees and Mets, but as mentioned, it doesn't apply to Jets/Giants.

I guess no one believes me. That's ok. I never said the Cubs weren't on daily. I was talking about the Sox on WGN. Think about the late 90s and early 2000s, though.
From the mid 80's to mid 90's, the Cubs were the mainstains of WGN. That changed toward to later half of the 90's.

I have a friend whose favorite teams are: Notre Dame Football, Duke basketball, San Francisco 49ers, and St. Louis Cardinals. I will give him credit that these are his favorites through thick and thin for 20+ years. On the other hand, they were the best teams when he was a kid so it makes me refer to him as a lifelong bandwagon fan.

Being a fan on Notre Dame and 49er football for the last decade+ is being anything but a bandwagon fan

I think it's funny when people say stuff like "The Lakers were my team for like 6 years, then the Hornets come to Louisiana so I'm just all of the sudden supposed to start cheering for them?"
Yes, yes you are.
I've been a Yankees fan for my entire life, and they'd become my 2nd favorite team in New Orleans ever got a baseball team.
ETA: This is assuming you have lived in Louisiana your whole life. If you have ties to another team in the NBA/NFL like having lived in that city, then that's totally different.

But why are you even a Yankee fan in the first place? Why not an Astro fan considering they are located just a few hours away?
You are a bandwagon baseball fan

Texas =/= Louisiana.
And if I'm a bandwagon baseball fan, then I'm shitty at it. When I started watching the Yankees they hadn't won shite in 15+ years.

Exactly. I hate the entire state of Texas yet I'm supposed to cheer for the Astros because they're only 4 hours away.

But it is suppose to be about geography. That should be the deciding factor in which team you choose to root for. If you are going to drop 20 years of dedication because someone moves into your state, then you were never a fan of the previous team to begin with
Now I'll go back to being a woman and root for my Lakers to beat the shite out of the Charlotte Hornets, just I would have in 1999

I'm from Louisiana. I support Louisiana teams. I'm not from Texas. I'm not from Florida.
Louisiana doesn't have an MLB team, so I picked another, just like everyone else.

So the Yankees are your friend with benefit until your true love comes along?
Posted on 4/27/11 at 2:00 am to SPEEDY
No, they're my team. I'm married to them. And I'm not ever anticipating a divorce (team moving to New Orleans).
But sometimes divorces happen.

Divorce is your choice if something better comes along. I'm married to mine for life. Doesn't make you any better or worse of a fan IMO
I support the Hornets and hope they do well, just not against the Lakers. I go to a few Hornet games a year and enjoy it.
If Louisiana ever got a MLB team, I would remain a Braves fan.
I would support Louisiana's MLB team if they ever got one, just not against the Braves
If that makes me a pussy arse bandwagon fan, so be it. I'll insert my tampon and root away

Nothing is bigger and better than the Yankees. I would be downgrading.

I'd like to propose an exception to the geography rule- if you've made the trip to see the team play at their home stadium, you can consider yourself a true fan.
Growing up, no MLB or NBA teams in Louisiana led me to root for the Braves and Bulls. I've been to Turner, and taken other trips to see the Braves play. I don't think I could change my allegiance to a NOLA MLB team. On the other hand, the only Bulls game I saw was a preseason game during MJ's first retirement. When the Hornets moved to NOLA, I had no problems letting go of my "allegiance" to the Bulls and becoming a Hornets fan.

The more you post, the more apparent I becomes that you can't possibly comprehend what it means to be a man.
Stop watching sports; start watchin daytime dramas. That's more appropriate for you.
If you don't understand the simple fact that a shared border alone can nurture sports hate, you clearly don't have a penis.
Care to post any pics of yourself? We'd love to see who we're dealing with.
