What I didn't know then, there being no internet and me being some dunce kid in Butt fricking Egypt, was that Marino had been a huge cokehead at Pitt. THAT, not his injury, had made teams shy away from him.
The documentary writes this off as a baseless rumor. Citing Pittsburgh PD meeting with Steelers and Marino never failing a drug test.

I'm really enjoying this one. Not as deep of a topic as some others, but the insight, like with their Agent's Diary, and the people they got to interview is all really well done.

@Mengus22: Given their history, why do Jets fans even watch the draft?
@SportsNation: Drafting Ken O'Brien over Dan Marino was the Jets Buttfumble of 1983 #ElwayToMarino
So the only decent QB the Jets have ever had is Joe Namath
This doc also semi-confirmed that the NFL had it in for Al Davis

I remember my dad telling me about the bitch move Elway pulled when I was a kid. It really pissed him off. He brings it up anytime Elway is mentioned

It's got to be gut wrenching for all these teams to relive passing on Marino

The Jets have seemed to make bad draft picks for years now.

There's nothing really likable about John Elway

The Colts were dumb, they could've got a better deal than that.

Marino was on the Joe Rose show here this morning. He hasn't seen the 30/30 yet but talked about the draft for about 20 minutes with Rose.
Said the Cheifs told him they were taking him or Blackledge for sure if they had the chance at 7. They worked out Marino one day and Blackledge the next and the pick could have gone either way. Basically a coin flip.
Then talked about the Steelers. They had used a 1st round pick a year or 2 before on a guy that turned out to be good, so they passed on Marino. Of course the NT they picked had the tragic accident and Bradshaw's career ended in the first quarter of the first game of the '83 season.
Also, Marino said that day was nerve wracking, but he knew for sure Shula would take him, he just never expected to fall that far. Said he was not upset when he did fall and felt fortunate to go to Miami, but was the day itself was a tough day to go through.

They could have presented Rivera's story in a better way

Pat Bowlen has two Vince Lomardi trophies in his trophy case. I think he would disagree.

Kinda reminds me of Eli Manning draft stuff.

This one was only so so, but:
John Elway - HOF
Eric Dickerson - HOF
Bruce Matthews - HOF
Jim Kelly - HOF
Dan Marino - HOF
Darrell Green - HOF
That is just in the first round.

This is one of the best 30 for 30s. It's like time travel.

"The Yankees are in the north east John, how do you justify playing baseball there and not football?"
"They play baseball in the summer"

McNeese State Cowboy Leonard Smith taken before Marino

Dude, I wish the NFL draft was still like this.

I agree. I learned some things tonight that I didn't know in '83.
