Typical good player on a team surrounded by skill players who were having a career season.

yeah, it is complete luck that Ryan Grant had a career season last year and that Thomas Jones had a career year this year. Nothing to do with Favre. I guess if he plays for the Bills next year and Lynch has a career year, then Favre still isn't any good, right?

A better question is why they vote for the Pro Bowl before the end of the season anyway?

pro bowl teams are picked waaaaaaaay too early .. look at the rosters, carl and look at how many players on there had crappy decembers and their teams folded ..

Farve was brought to the Jets for that game yesterday. To win that game. But in typical Farve fashion, he laid an egg with bad decisions. The pick six was right up his alley.

I asked you a different question that the one you attempted to answer. Yes, the pick 6 was awful. And, so was the INT in OT last year that kept the Pack out of the Super Bowl.

But, neither team is close to what they were with Brett if he's sitting at home. And, someone writing his success off as luck because he has a little bit of talent and every RB and all WRs he plays with have breakout years is a bit of a stretch. Especially when it happens two years in a row on two different teams.

Personally I didn't find the Jets any worse with Chad Pennington. He was hurt alot. He was just as bad as Favre. The packers would have been just as bad this year if Favre would have been their QB. He was once a great QB. Now he is just average, and gets by on his name.

P.S. If Grant does't have a breakout year last year, the Pack doesn't get into the playoffs. Period. I don't put that on Favre.

And, I guess that the Jets have no shot if Thomas Jones doesn't have his best year this year?

Why did both RBs have career years with Favre as QB and not with Pennington/Rodgers?

The same reason why the losing superbowl team rarely makes the playoffs after making the super bowl. It's just one of those things that happen.

Great answer.

What about the fact that he took a 4-12 team and even had them in contention for the playoffs?

and in the same breath you could also say kept them out of contention. It's the same rap against Favre, he can get you in the mix, but his countless bad decisions and numerous int's cost them the wildcard. Plain and simple.

In the end what is the difference between a player like Favre and Drew Brees? Both are very good, but the difference between the saints and the jets is an offensive line and a defense that can stop people. What does a running back need to get yards.......an offensive line. Obviously both the pack and the jets had them, point in case why both jones and Grant had career seasons. But Farve, Brett fricking Farve is the reason why both lost in their respective situations. Yes Farve can produce in some situations where other qb's fail, but his downside always.....always rears it's ugly head in crucial situations.

the better question is what about the quarterback of that 4-12 team taking a 1-15 team to an 11-5 season and winning a division title ?? if that doesn't tell you anything about the jets personnel, nothing will ..

But it doesn't really matter because Mangini is done, because Farve couldn't produce when it counts. No one is really holding him accountable. They should not re-sign him. Why fire a coach, because a player who is has one foot in the grave career wise cannot play for him. Bad decisions all around. But they almost fired Mangini the last two years, so I am not surprised.

This thread was supposed to be about Mangini. not Favre. Mangini made ridiculous coacing decions punt don't etc and his fate was sealed. The masses wanted him out. pray for Cowher. I am going past Giants Stadium in an hour for a Job Interview. Sorry Eric but I hope I get the job today!

his best year ever wasn't much better than his last 2. just b/c he got more goaline carries doesn't mean he's amazing now

he is what he is, and has been for years

So at the beginning of the year Favre enjoyed Mangini and the Jets because they were winning and Favre was doing well. Now that Favre started to play like complete shite, he doesn't like Mangini? WTF Favre im so tired of hearing your bullshite just retire already, and this time stay retired you big ego mofo.

is name calling really necessary when talking about one of the league greats who has always played with a great passion for the game? And I highly doubt the Jets front office made this decision based on a player who might be around for 1 more year.
