The list is for the five greatest runningbacks of all time, not most dynamic. And why should having talent around him be a knock on a guy? Maybe Emmitt truly was by himself, a great runner? Certainly one of the most complete backs ever. And as for carrying teams, you do realize that it was proven in the 90s that the Cowboys could win without Troy. They could win without Jay. They could win with a battered offensive line. But they could not win without Emmitt Smith.

They didn't win crap after 1996 so I don't see the point.

As for my calling them dynamic, that is just a way of saying they were the best. Emmitt was a great back, I just don't think he's top 5 all time. I would take all those backs over him any day.

They didn't win crap prior to 1996 in games Emmitt Smith was not a part of either.

He was a great back, but he didn't carry that team. He put them over the top, but that's it IMO.

If that was truly the case then you should have been able to insert any other runningback into that role and the 90s era Cowboys would have done just as well. But the fact remains than in games where Emmitt was either a contract holdout or sidelined with a torn hamstring, the Cowboys lost. Emmitt didn't just make them over the top, he was one of the primary reasons for success the Cowbos enjoyed in the early-mid 90s.

Did you completely ignore where I said he put them over the top? Man, your Emmitt schlong sucking must be blinding you.

Guy was a great back, just not top 5. You put any of the 5 on my list on those Cowboys teams and they win just as much if not more.

THANK YOU!

I love how it's always "everyone around Emmitt made him better" but never the other way around.

I'm sorry did Barry Sanders have Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman? I thought not.

shut up you little bitch. You got completely owned. And you do realize Michael Irvin was arguably the biggest overachiever ever right? I'm sure he caught a lot of balls because they had to respect that guy named Emmitt.

You can speculate and make excuses all you want about Barry Sanders, but Emmitt did that. There's no guessing or what if's, he knocked that shite down and now he's being rewarded for it.

I used to go all out and use links, quotes and other shite to prove where you 12 year olds showed your arse on here but I'm really too tired for that shite right now. You just did, that's all. Basically your entire argument is very opinionated and speculative. Emmitt was the epitome of consistency and durability. Barry was explosive and fun to watch, but he doesn't have the record because he lacked a lot of the tools Emmitt had. I also believe you said Barry Sanders only made one playoff appearence? Well dude made 5 post seasons and with the exception of the 91 season they never made it past the first round.

and LOL at the O-line and supporting cast arguments, the Lions had a few talented teams during Barry Sanders career. Including some nice fullbacks like Emmitt had.

I honestly hate the comparisons between the 2. I was a fan of both of them.............But I also hate when Emmitt doesn't get the credit he is due.

nowhere close to the Cowboys. When Sanders was there the team finished with a losing record 5 out of 10 seasons. Sanders ended up retiring because of the Lions losing culture. The seasons when they had winning records it was mostly mediocre 9-7 seasons.

91: 12-4
93, 95: 10-6
and at least 3(9-7)'s where they finished 3rd in the NFC is not real mediocre. I'm not sure where you got your football knowledge but the Lions were not the shitfest in the 90's that they are today. They also won a few key games without relying heavily on Barry Sanders, including their playoff win over Dallas in 91.

and you do realize Dallas wasn't real dominant during Emmitt's last half of his career right? This is a terrible fricking argument if you really want to compare the 2.

LOL, they did make the playoffs the year he retired. They probably would have been that much better had he stayed. They made the playoffs for about half of his career. That's not really a "losing" culture. He says he retired because they were "losing", he pretty much retired because he wanted out of Detroit. He wanted to go to a powerhouse and be guaranteed a ring. They were still playoff contenders the day he quit, I consider him gutless because of this.

Barry Sanders own mouth.

quote:

Several years after retirement, and repeated refusals to discuss the abruptness of it, Sanders finally admitted that the culture of losing in the Lions' organization was too much to deal with even though he said that he could still play. He explained that it robbed him of his competitive spirit, and he saw no reason to believe things were going to improve.

NFL network is great. Watched one on Sander's a few months ago.

The franchise has been pretty bad. Yes they went to the playoffs but as you said once they got there they usually, save in '91, they lost. They are in the top 10 teams in sports for the longest time without winning a championship. They haven't won a championship since Bobby Layne was there in the last few years of the 50's.

Yes. But getting there is what it's all about. Guess he just wasn't big time enough to get it done when it counted eh? Emmitt on the other hand stepped the frick up in the post season.
