Duke/Kansas and team defense....

Anyone watching the Duke/Kansas game had to be super impressed with the team defense by both teams. The ability the make multiple rotations and not miss a beat is so impressive and I think the majority of basketball fans don't really appreciate this. Good defensive rotation is far more difficult than knocking down 3's and high flying dunks. I just don't get how how true basketball fans can't see this.

I agree, both have pretty good help defense and know their assignments.

that was just an amazing game from every aspect

Good cover defense and shot blocking, but very little in the way of getting in passing lanes and picking off passes. That's the main thing I like about Alabama's defense, they are constantly throwing hands around getting steals by invading the passing lanes.
Different styles of defense, both very effective IMO.
Bingo Couldnt agree more

They usually do this, but I didn't see much of it today, especially from Kelly and Rivers. I was disappointed because it is a great way to start a fast break.
And that's one of the reasons I have Alabama as a major sleeper this year (potential Final 4/Elite 8 squad).

Just the precision in which both teams rotate is astounding. They make 2 to 3 rotations and everybody is where they are supposed to be. That requires 5 guys to be exactly on the same page and see the exact same thing at almost the exact same time. It is so hard to teach much the basics much less the ins and outs of true man defense. Amazing.

well for a good bit of the second half the defenses didnt really matter because neither ball could throw it in the ocean.

bill self's kansas teams are pretty much always a top 3-5 defensive team in college basketball. if you wanna learn how to play defense as a team, just watch them in any given year under self.

I was going to post about how well Alabama's defense plays under Anthony Grant but I see you've already got that covered

I am shocked at how well conditioned the starting line-up was for KU. I wonder if they can keep it up all year.
It reminds me of the 2009-10 Duke backcourt, where Smith, Scheyer, and Singler had to play 35+ minutes every game, but it's like that for the entire team. Hell of an effort and more of a game than I expected (conversely, I think I overestimated Memphis and Michigan).

it's our only chance at big time success (probably not that many minutes, though). the starting 5 is legit as hell and are gonna be able to play with anyone when they are on the floor. starting with the 6th man though, there's a very big drop off. naturally, self has known this all along (since mclemore's deal) so maybe there has been a bigger emphasis on conditioning and whatnot or maybe he took them aside and told them they'll play as many minutes as they can or some shite.
anyone that knows anything about kansas this year knows there are only 5 players, so it'll be interesting to see how the year plays out.

When playing that many minutes, you've got to figure they are going to wear down by the end of Big 12 play no matter how well conditioned they are.

Ku does well at holding the other teams shooting%under 50% for the game

KU's defense didn't look great against UK. In fact UK's defense is very very good.

my only fear is that Robinson and Whitney Wont be able to play as hard all the time b/c fear of foul trouble. They don't even have a legit bogbto back them up

It was good until UK started hitting every shot in the 2nd half, contested or not. Not much you can do
