Don't mean to pile on to the La Tech bowl situation anymore, but

One thing that isn't really talked about is the game at actually got set up for the Liberty Bowl is pretty awful and not many fans from either school are excited about it.
Tulsa was Iowa State's season opener this year (Iowa State won 38-23), and Iowa State plays them again the third game of the season next year.
So Iowa State and Tulsa will play 3 times in less than a year
ETA: the discussion is not about having to play teams more than once, its just about how shitty is for both those fanbases to get "rewarded" with a bowl game that isn't really exciting or new...one of the most fun things about bowl seasons is playing teams from other conferences that you never get to play

forced rivalry is forced
That was the first thing I noticed about the bowls too. The attendance there is going to be pitiful.
If we're gonna have bowls let them run the way they were done in the beginning. Let the bowls pick the best match up they can get that will generate the most interest and the most $.

So did LSU/Alabama, but that didn't stop the travesty from happening

but there's a difference.
1) LSU and Alabama are in the same conference
2) that was a bowl game that actually had something on the line so both fanbases would watch and be excited about it
if you are a small school and you make it to a bowl game, it really sucks to play an OOC school that you played earlier in the year and will play next year.
it sucks for the players and the fans... literally 0 excitement about the game
the small bowls already suck as it is, but this takes it to a new level of shittiness

uh fail
Bama wanted a second chance
and LSU didn't understand why they had to beat the same team twice while Bama only had to win once
but it's dumb that Tulsa/Iowa St are in that bowl

good point, i edited to clarify
I meant that at least the game had something on the line to be excited about the rematch due to the chapmionship aspect
La Tech vs Tulsa would actually be a pretty good game

Won't tech and tulsa being playing a conference game next season?
Posted on 12/7/12 at 12:48 pm to Eighteen
I know, right?
Iowa St is 6-6 too, and kind of boring.
Tech is 9-3, lead the nation in total offense, spent 5 weeks in the Top 25, QB won the Sammy Baugh award, freshman RB broke all-time TD record for a freshman, punter won Ray Guy Award for 2nd consecutive year.
Scratching head. I guess Iowa St might bring more fans or something. The Bowl system needs to change.

I posted this in another thread. One reason Iowa St. wanted in the LB because this year is the 40th Anniversary of Coach Johnny Majors leading ISU the LB. I don't know why that is a big deal, because ISU lost the bowl game, final record of 5-6-1 and Coach Majors left for Pitt. But I'm not on the LB selection committee.

Is there any doubt that the 2 best teams in the country played for the NC back in January? Alabama's only loss was to LSU.

I agree. When LA Tech can't fill the Joe, what in the hell makes them think they can fill half of the Liberty Bowl?
2012 LA Tech football.... it's a laugher
