re: Does UNC deserve a playoff spot if they beat Clemson?

Well, I don't think a 12-1 UNC would be one of the 10 best teams in the country, let alone top 4, but they would have one of the 4 best cases for being there.
If we're just taking the 4 'best' teams then Alabama should be in win or lose, but they won't be if they lose.
Taken straight from the committee's page:

Mission.
The committee’s task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and selected other bowl games and then assign the teams to sites.
Even with a win over Clemson, UNC isn't one of the best four teams in the country. I'd listen to an argument about them being more deserving, but that's about it.
UNC getting in lets everyone else know to schedule two FCS teams, a MAC/Sun Belt school, and one of Kansas/Vandy/Purdue every year. Just make sure that last one is scheduled for the first game in case you lose to a terrible team.
I've still not seen a single valid point about UNC being one of the best four teams in football. That isn't going to change no matter what happens this weekend.

What are the best teams though?
That is what needs to be defined...

That's why I put quotes around 'best'... it's a vague term that can't be clearly defined when it comes to college football.
Beating Clemson would be a valid point. Have to beat the 'best' to be the 'best'.

I don't think it can be, but losing to a 3-9 team while also playing two FCS teams should always remove a team from that conversation.

Nope, but it can be debated. I've seen a lot of reasons why UNC would "deserve" to be in the top four, but nothing showing why they are one of the top four.

Yes it would be. Beating Clemson gets them into the discussion, but that's about it.

Well, nobody is saying they should be in the top 4 RIGHT NOW. All is predicated on them beating Clemson.

Of the teams in the top 15 in Offensive PPG, only three in the country are also in the top 20 in Defensive PPG.
Those three:
Oklahoma (#3 O, Tied #19 D)
UNC (#11 O, Tied #19 D)
Clemson (#15 O, #17 D)
There's a point for UNC being one of the top 4 teams.
Need another point for UNC being a top 4 team?
Against Power 5 competition, UNC is #1 in both net yards/play and net points/play. That's having played 10 Power 5 teams already to Ohio State's 9 and we still have one more game to play.

It'll be very interesting how far UNC moves up. They beat a team with a winning record but not top 25 (NC State).
That shouldn't help them too much of the CFP really sticks with how they've evaluated teams.

I find it coincidental the only ones complaining about UNC are tOSU fans. They are trying to not validate them to keep their slimmest of margin of hope.

Does that surprise you? Its called being a fan.
Posted on 11/30/15 at 1:00 pm to KosmoCramer
No it doesn't but the lengths some are going to is surprising.

If UNC beats Clemson I could see Ohio State getting into the playoffs, and I honestly wouldn't have a problem with it.

I do not think they will and nor should they especially if Iowa wins.
Whoever gets in will deserve it though.
I just wished the definition of best would be given.

Some are putting them next in line though, and I don't think that's the case. If they beat Clemson by a field goal, they're out. Anything less than the most impressive win of the season, and they're probably out.

You'll need a lot more than that to get past the loss and two FCS teams, but sure, give some more.

I mean that's obvious. I said in this thread earlier I would prob take UNC

A win against the #1 team in the country should just about do it. We'll see after this weekend. Should be a good game.

So UNC doesn't run the HUNH I assume.

They run a no huddle they do not always hurry up though.
They are like a combo of tOSU and oSu

Mostly no huddle, but tempo changes throughout the game from hurry up to signaling in the play from the sidelines after the D lines up.
